Would sound as if the bands are slipping. a regular transmission service may suffice ,they change the fluid renew the filter and adjust the bands ,and i would think you will be out of trouble

if it is a diesel engine ---problem with the governor control of the engine--- fix is have the pump pulled and repaired by an accredited diesel specialist shop
if petrol check for faulty accelerator position sensor or throttle control motor or broken cable
the oD lamp doing that means scan me. on all cars..... use any scan tool of 1996 or newer. if not ,use the flash codes... ask.

This is the classic symptom of a vehicle with a failed torque converter lockup solenoid. The lockup solenoid "locks up" the transmission to the drivetrain but only operates when the transmission progresses from first gear to second gear.
Problem is the detent springs for 4/5 gear have gone weak .
If you are handy its take the top off the gearbox from inside the car and you will see the plug then the springs and balls .
If not its a transmission shop job.
If its a Bighorn then there is a vaiable resistor that adjusts when the accelerator is pressed. The electric signal is passed to the ecu for change down in the autobox. There is more info on the Isuzu club pages but just losen the two srews and move the resitor anti cockwise this did the trick on my auto bighorn
Ok, The steering noise is either the power steering pump or belt! Check the fluid level first.
