I would start with your trans, 3rd gear is much higher the 1 and 2 and if it only jerks in 3 the problem is a tranny issue, possibly late shifting or bad shift solenoid for 3rd gear. Your ecu could also be casueing the late shifts.....hows your fluid level/age

Car jerks when changing gears

You do not say if it is an automatic or manual transmission (clutch). I will assume auto. This could be several things. It may be something as simple as low fluid or possibly the transmission filter needs to be changed and the old fluid flushed out. Or the transmission could be starting to go bad and would need to be rebuilt or replaced.

My 2000 Beetle is jerking when it changes gears. I had a transmission put in about 14 months ago. I had it looked at a the local VW business and they told me that I needed a transmission. My machanic said...

when it jerks during gear changes it could be a couple of things.

First of all, check the fluid level in the automatic transmission.

Secondly, check the mounts for the engine that they're tight and secure and if they are then

Thirdly, ask the transmission shop if the torque converter is bad in it.

The torque converter could be locked up somehow causing this jerking and I wouldn't be surprised if the transmission shop lists a recall on it.

Actually, even if there is NO recall on it, tell the transmission shop that put the transmission in to check it out, and if possible rectify it under warranty.

I wish you luck in getting this fixed correctly.

Jun 27, 2009- hi what i did mean to say is i have a honda accord 2005 2.4 v-tec automatic transmission its not a V6 engine for sure. this problem has suddenly started like as i said the D4 light starts to...

You indicated that the transmission starts jerking after a long drive.

With the mileage on your vehicle, and the possible sandy conditions that it is driven in, your automatic transmission fluid may be fouled, also causing the jerky shifting with extended operation.

A thorough cleaning of the transmission case interior and inspection of your gears are in order. You could prevent this similar situation after repairs by replacing your ATF more often that required by your service manual.

Hope this helps.

your transmission has possibly been rebuilt with stronger springs put in. No worries. have been running mine for along while without any problems. Better this than slipping, but it is a bit annoying.

Transmission problem in E230 Benz

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Car jerks to side when shifting gears

Hi, just had this problem repaired. The lower arm bushings are bad...not the transmission. I ordered two sets from the nubira site (for the left and right sides of the car)...they are kind of like metal rings with rubber inside...this rubber dampens the shifting from the transmission. $250 - $300 job. Sure that's what it is...
