Recently the gearbox fault light and cruise control not available came on. The car was having a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. Now 1st to 2nd is fine and it's rough shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I just replaced the upper radiator hose because it was leaking. What could be causing the gearbox fault light? Am I gonna need a new transmission? The gearbox fault light has come on before but only when it rains and then it usually goes away by the next day. My car is a 2002 Jaguar x-type with 144000 miles on it.
The only thing that will cause a cruise control fault is a loose vacuum hose ussually on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body. As for the remainder, shut off the car and restart to get you home and avoid the limp home mode. That in itself is an electronic fault in the ground system. Check you coils or replace them with a new set of plugs (autolite double platinum recommendes.) Clean any grounds you may have and then start you engine. You will notice there is no problem then. Run a diagnostic tool to see if there is any fault with grounded sensors like the O2 to keep that from happening again. Don't get the tranny replaced cause thats all the dealership wants to do and charge you $5k. Its not the actual cause. Good luck and let us know if there is anything else we can do here at fixya.
Hi I have a 2003 X-type 3.0. I went thru so much money trying to fix this problem. Finally we got it! It's vaccum leaks. Usually in emissions box. I had 3 leaks though. After we fixed them no more limp mode, smelling exhaust, or lights appeared! Take it from experience and money Vaccum Leaks!!
