Its in the center of the trunk there are some screws that hold the lid down..remove them..then remove the second set.twist the (twist left) fuel pump then pull straight up...you might have to wiggle it a little to get it out....then replace it.and put it back together
There is in fact a door in the trunk that will need to be removed. however, this is not the fuel pump the door in the trunk is the fuel level. it must be removed first before anything else so start there. next the fuel pump is inside the tank next to the fuel level but the tank must be removed to access it. the smart thing to do is remove the tank and the pump from the tank and install an outer pump on the frame because of the fact of how difficult it is to get to the pump and the fact that the inner tank pumps are prone to failure. also the replacement pumps are extemely expensive.
If there is a access door it will be under the rug in the trunk or under the back seats

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I know where to access from the top but I don't see a access door that I can get to the fuel pump from. I have been told that you can even though the manual says you have to pull the tank.
Anyone out there ever replace a fuel pump on a 85 300ZX?
