NV3500 Problems shifting. 1998 s10.

Hi I have a 98 Chevy S10 4.3l with 117,000 miles on motor and transmission.

I cannot get the truck to shift into second while the truck is in motion, at high and low rpms and double clutching. I can shift into 2nd gear with the truck parked. The slave cylinder has been replaced. Here are my other concerns: When I press in the clutch, I hear a whining/light scratching noise which could be what, a throw out bearing? When I let out the clutch it quietens down. The clutch pedal seems stiff and doesn't engage until about an 2 inches from the floor. Transmission fluid is full and good, so is clutch slave cylinder reservoir.
I guess my big question is, do I need to get this trans rebuilt because of synchros being bad on 2nd gear?

It sounds as though either the throw out bearing or pressure plate are bad. The grinding makes me want to lean towards the pressure plate.

The engine is not producing the power that the transmission expects, so it shifts like crazy. You might have been looking the wrong way all along. So make sure the engine works well.

My 1999 chevy blazer wont shift out of low

My husband had the same problem with his 1988 S10 Blazer. We drained the tranny, cleaned out the pan and put in a new filter etc. Filled with new fluid and all problems solved. Shifts better now then before the tranny service.

92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

89-98 chevy blazer

It's not worth doing all that conversion, buy the time you spend the time and money to convert the 89 4.3 to work on the 98 blazer, it would be cheaper to install a 98 vortec rebuild. The 89 4.3 have a TBI fuel injection system and the ecm on the 98 will not work and the bad news is that the ecm on the 98 also controls the transmission shift points and the 89 will not, so even if you swap the ecm to have the 89 4.3 engine work. the transmission will not shift. Sorry for the bad news but it would be cheaper to replace the 98 engine with the years of 1996 to 2001. Good luck and hope this helps.

in your transmission you have a shift solinoid that is probably sticking, when and if you replace it, also have the bands adjusted (every 12000 miles or the next transmission flush)
