Ihave 3 error codes on my 02 new beetle they are: P1171, P0456, 01314. The EPC light and the ASR light come on after driving for approx 17miles then after shutting the car off then the next time I start it they are off until about 16- 17 miles down the road. Any suggestions on fixing this????

Hello, the error code P1171 means - Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Signal 2 Range/Performance. Which my shopkey doesn't give to much information on.

As for P0456 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (very small leak).

Now the reason that they don't appear until you drive for a bit is the computer doesn't see it until say the car has been running for a bit. The cars computer almost gives the system leeway for leakage, but since it has not gone away, it lights up your lights. Now when you restart the car it's like restarting a computer (no pun intended). It's essentially a restart.

I would have the EVAP system tested (at a dealer or similar auto shop). And as for the first error code it seems to be a bad sensor.

Hope this helps a bit :)

Sounds like you have and issue with your throttle sensor from the 1171, not sure of the others as they are not on the list so please verify. Here is a link to the codes for future reference, scroll to the bottom which list the DTC's..

ESP/ASR INACTIVE ON 2014 BEETLE. ALSO, EPC LIGHT IS ON ALONG WITH ENGINE EMISSION MALFUNCTION AND TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT.2014 BEETLE 1.8 TURBO TWO DOOR.

These are all separate issues:

Had the oil changed in 2002 New Beetle. The check engine light, ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), and EPC (Electronic Power Control) dash warning lights are all on. Solid lights, not blinking.

Not without clearing codes. And if the check engine light is on due to an actual problem, it can turn the other warning light on too so you know those systems are disabled. Usually a problem with ABS or traction control will not turn on the check engine light.
Your owners manual would talk more about what the lights mean.
I would have the engine computer scanned for trouble codes first.

My 02 Jetta is sputtering, and trips the EPC mode.

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

What does it mean when the epc light comes on in my 2001 volkswagon bettle

EPC means Electronic Power Control (aka; Drive by wire) it means there is no throttle cable, it's all electronic. It can be illuminated by any error that has to do with this system. Use an OBD II tool or VAG-COM cable to check the error codes.
