No you don't. you can cut a whole in the bottom of your car to reach the access to the tank. But that involves precision. One little mistake could cause a whole in the tank meaning tank needs replacing, cutting a fuel line meaning line needs replacing, or cutting wires which would need to be spliced again. Some vechiles actually have an access panel to the fuel tank but I don't belive this one does. So best advice, drop the tank.

I think the fuel pump is not working, do I have to drop the gas tank to replace?

Yes the fuel tank has to come out to replace the fuel pump.Easier if tank is 1/4 tank or lower. Before doing this make sure that your getting power to the fuel pump.If not check the fuses and the connector for the fuel pump. You can check for power with a test light. It will be the gray wire.Light should come on when the key is turned on.Will only stay on for 2 or 3 seconds unless you crank it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

1999 Cadillac Deville - How to replace fuel pump? Fuse is OK and fuel pump does not run. Is fuel pump accessible through trunk or must you drop tank? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

Unfortunetly Cadillac does not have an access panel for fuel pump access until the newer years. You will need to drop the tank. Also, don't let the tank come slamming to the ground, make sure you take it slow so you dont dammage the lines to the sending unit.

Good Luck!

Need to install fuel pump in 1991 pontiac firebird

Sorry. Got to drop the tank. Just break the gas tank bolts and replace them with new ones. If the straps are badly rusted, replace them, too. Look for tank leaks on the top of the tank. Replace the sock on the fuel pump.

1996 Ford Bronco Fuel Pump Replacement

A 1996 Bronco fuel pump is in the tank. The tank will have to be dropped. After that, it's quick & easy. The filter is on the rail, not so easy even with the line removal tools. Wear safety glasses in case of any pressure.
