You can drive the car up to a certain point. If the motor mounts are just worn and not broken you can drive it, but It would be best if they were fixed. If they come loose you have the potential to wreck a lot of stuff, if they are broken, which is usually how you tell if they're bad or not, then I would definitely fix them before driving it.

Dear 5 Bad Motor Mounts......Yes you can still drive the vehicle with bad motor and trans mounts......but please keep in mind that chaos will happen down the road if you keep a persistent habit of this. Some effects of bad motor and trans mounts are torn halfshaft boots....which lead to road debris and god knows what else in your halfshaft bearings...which in turn fail because of debris and bearing failure...hoses prematurily fail...resulting in sudden breaks and leaks...harsh slamming of the powertrain...if it gets to back can result in unsafe driving conditions....so...in answer to your question....yes you can drive it.....but don't put a lot of miles on her unless you want a little less padding out of your pocketbook.......but hurry up on saving up for those mounts...you don't want something else failing...thx for your time!!! HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

SOURCE: I believe that I have either a bad transmission

Hard (from age and heat) or broken engine and transmission mounts will cause this type of vibration. Based on many repair experiences with this type of vibration on mostly 4 cylinders I would replace all the mounts, both the engine and transmission, leave the bolts loose that retain the engine in the mounts, then with the motor mounts and transmission mount still loose run the engine and shift back and forth from drive to reverse and then back to neutral, this relieves any stress from misaligned engine mounts and reduces vibration. Also make sure the exhaust isn't touching the frame anywhere, that will also cause vibration to be felt at or near idle, worse when put in gear. If all of the above don't help then you may have a torque converter problem is it is an automatic transmission

Hello. Your Honda needs motor mounts; possibly all 3 motor mounts AND a transmission mount(s). Usually bad vehicle motor mounts allows 'vibrations' to be felt. In rare cases, the engine will 'dangle' because motor mounts 'snapped' and there is nothing there to keep it in place. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

If your engine mount is bad is it dangerous to drive

Better to not drive as it can stress the drive axles by the engine raising when torqued putting axles in a bind . If you do drive try not to take off any harder than necessary .

Liter engine automatic

you probably have a bad motor mount. Look under the hood, passenger side of engine compartment cast iron mount with rubber insert. Is the rubber insert worn visually inspecting. If you cannot tell, have a friend start the car, emergency brake on, foot on brake, shift from park to drive, does the motor jump in the mount? shift from drive to reverse, does it jump again. If so bad mount, local auto repair store should carry. you will have to jack up the engine carefully not much and not directly on oil pan, you just have to relieve the weight on the mount to replace. several m10 bolts, 15mm socket to remove. retighten fasteners to 58+/- 9Nm of torque. good luck.

When i shift to reverse or drive, the transmission kinda kicks like it's slipping. I was told that the lower motor mount may be bad

Indeed the engine mounts can cause this type of symptom, have a local shop check the engine for excessive lift up on gear engagement.

I believe that I have either a bad transmission mount or mounts, and possible a bad motor mount or mounts because the car vibrates in drive while running and also vibrates in neutral while running but not...

Get a friend to open the hood and look at the engine go up or down in the engine compartment when the brakes are firmly applied and switching between reverse and drive. Look for the motor mounts for behavior where tears exist in the rubber.

Heard clunking noise when turning took wheels off started motor put in drive turned stering wheel heard noise did not see any movement at drive shafts did see motor shifting frount motor mount wore out...

bad motor mounts will cause some issues, bad CV joints will also cause and issue. You will need to check for both. Being a 99 you will also want to check teh front differential for the proper fluid level, this is not the same as the transmission.

If you have a motor mount going bad, are you suppose to be able to hear a noise of some kind?

Not usually. when a mount is bad, you can FELL the car **** when accell of a stop or changing from Drive to reverse. To check it, put on your parking brake, now hold the brake pedal with your left foot, now put the car in reverse, and press the gas slightly, the engine will move slightly, now put it in drive, the engine should shift slightly, if it moves a LOT like a few inches or moves upward, you may have a mount bad and it needs to be inspected.

sounds like a motor mount is bad. does the motor kick back hard when putting in drive or reverse? if so you need to change the bad motor mount.
