You can drive the car up to a certain point. If the motor mounts are just worn and not broken you can drive it, but It would be best if they were fixed. If they come loose you have the potential to wreck a lot of stuff, if they are broken, which is usually how you tell if they're bad or not, then I would definitely fix them before driving it.
Dear 5 Bad Motor Mounts......Yes you can still drive the vehicle with bad motor and trans mounts......but please keep in mind that chaos will happen down the road if you keep a persistent habit of this. Some effects of bad motor and trans mounts are torn halfshaft boots....which lead to road debris and god knows what else in your halfshaft bearings...which in turn fail because of debris and bearing failure...hoses prematurily fail...resulting in sudden breaks and leaks...harsh slamming of the powertrain...if it gets to back can result in unsafe driving conditions....so...in answer to your question....yes you can drive it.....but don't put a lot of miles on her unless you want a little less padding out of your pocketbook.......but hurry up on saving up for those mounts...you don't want something else failing...thx for your time!!! Hard (from age and heat) or broken engine and transmission mounts will cause this type of vibration. Based on many repair experiences with this type of vibration on mostly 4 cylinders I would replace all the mounts, both the engine and transmission, leave the bolts loose that retain the engine in the mounts, then with the motor mounts and transmission mount still loose run the engine and shift back and forth from drive to reverse and then back to neutral, this relieves any stress from misaligned engine mounts and reduces vibration. Also make sure the exhaust isn't touching the frame anywhere, that will also cause vibration to be felt at or near idle, worse when put in gear. If all of the above don't help then you may have a torque converter problem is it is an automatic transmission
