Switch to fridge off. If you have a household fan, or pedestal fan, you can open the door, remove all the drawers and food, place the fan pointing toward the cabinet. It will defrost in minutes without damaging anything. Just remember that there will be water so you need to mop it up or put a thin container near the front where it runs out. Do not use any sharp object to loosen ice, you can puncture the refrigerant tubing.

How do I increase the volume of the alarm on my Whirlpool 2022 French door refrigerator?

Most people want them turned off! The volume isn't adjustable. You can however buy a standalone fridge door alarm from Amazon or eBay.

My Fisher & Paykel E450 fridge only unit seems to be draining out too much water. The drain capture container at the back of the unit fills up about once a week. Any help would be good.

A fridge must be transported upright or if not left idle for several hours in it's new home before switching on. Failing to do that can seriously reduce the life of the compressor as also failing to ensure it is adjusted level to a spirit level or plumb-line accuracy can similarly do so.

A frost free fridge can produce quite a lot of water depending on the usage, the contents and ambient humidity. The water in the capture container that is fitted directly to the top of the compressor should evaporate almost as soon as it is produced due to the heat generated by the compressor.

It is possible the fridge isn't producing abnormal amounts of water unless the door seal is faulty, the door is being left open for periods that are too long or hot food or very moist food is routinely being placed inside.
It is possible the water isn't evaporating fast enough because the compressor isn't getting hot enough - possibly because it isn't working hard enough or perhaps it is cycling too quickly. Perhaps it has lost some refrigerant...

Water in crisper drawer of Whirlpool model number ET18TK

the water in the bottom of the fridge will be from condensate running down the back wall and not collecting in the drain ridge to flow outside to the dish on top of the compressor. It comes from overloading the fridge by opening the door too often and excess food trying to cool down. check and unplug any blockages in the drain and pull any containers away from the back wall as water will flow off the wall onto them and miss the drain all together. The drain ridge will be under 1/2 way down the back

Refrigerator side too cold

refrigerators only have one cooling system and that is for the freezer. The fridge part is cooled by sending a portion of the air from the freezer to the fridge. your fridge thermostat controls a fan that turns on and off as needed. first step is to make sure this is working, and not stuck on. turn your fridge to a somewhat warm no and open the door for a few minutes to allow the cold air out then check and see see if it gets very cold again within say an hour. if it does your fan is always on and you need to repair it. if that is working then you have to play with both freezer and fridge settings. best thing is to get a cheap thermometer and check your freezer temp. it should be around 0 to -5f if it is colder than that frigid air blowing into your fridge too cool the whole area will freeze anything close to the vent. once you have your freezer set then start adjusting your fridge. personally I have mine set at 34f knowing that some things on the top shelf will freeze. but I like my cola's COLD. so I put things like butter that are harder to freeze at that level. but if you don't want anything to freeze then a temp of 37 -39f is correct for your fridge. so it comes down to freezer temp, the amount of time the fan is on, and proximity to the vent. good luck

Our kenmore refrigerator/freezer went warm. We

It could be one of several problems -

1) Failed compressor relay
2) Failed compressor
3) Failed component in the defrost system
4) Bad door gaskets
5) Failed door light switch

Questions to answer -

1) Was the compressor (large black domed item with three tubes (one stubbed) at the bottom back of the frig.) warm or hot?
2) Was the condenser fan running?
3) Was there thick ice buildup inside the louvers of the back wall of the freezer?
4) Was the fan running inside the freezer?
5) Look up my "Tips and Tricks" article on testing your door gaskets.
6) Open the door slightly and look inside as best you can. Is the light on or off? Continue to open the door until you see the light go on to confirm the light switch is working.
Your response will give us an idea where to look to find the problem.

This can happen if the fan motor in the freezer compartment is bad. Causes the freezer section to freeze up and you will not get air circulating, so no cooling. Check the fanmotor

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.
