My 2007 Impala LTZ was stuck in Park. After trying several alternatives, I pressed the traction control button and the shift lever then worked.

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

2007 Impala stuck in park and gear override silver button won't work. Can't figure out the problem please help

If your 2007 Impala is stuck in park and the gear override silver button doesn't work, there may be a few potential problems that are causing the problem. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting solutions you can try: Brake light switch: The most common cause of this problem is a faulty brake light switch. The brake light switch is responsible for sending a signal to the shift interlock solenoid to release the shifter when the brake pedal is depressed and can prevent the shifter from releasing if the switch does not operate properly. Make sure your brake lights work by pressing on the brake pedal. If they don't work, it's probably a brake light switch issue that needs to be replaced. Shift Interlock Solenoid: The shift interlock solenoid is a mechanism that prevents the shifter from moving without pressing the brake pedal If the solenoid is faulty or a blown fuse can cause the shifter to go into park. Check the fuse connected to the shift interlock system and replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the solenoid may need to be replaced. Shift Cable: The shift cable connects the shifter to the transmission and allows you to change gears. Damaged, loose, or misaligned cables can prevent the shifter from leaving the parking space. Inspect the shift cable for any obvious issues and make sure it is securely attached to the shifter and transmission. Shift lock control module: Some vehicles have a shift lock control module that ensures proper operation of the shift interlock system. Malfunction of this module can cause the problem. It may be necessary to use a diagnostic scan tool to check for any error codes associated with the module. Ignition switch: Faulty ignition under certain conditions

Gear shifter is stuck in park 2008 impala

Can be several things. There is an interlock for the gearshift which must agree with the brake pedal showing your foot is on the brake. If anything is out of alignment, then the gearshift will not release.

Sometimes if you look at the Brakelight, a sure sign of problems is they refuse to light up when the pedal is pressed. The brake pedal interlock at the top of the brake pedal lever is out of place or broken. Once the switch is restored, everything should work again.

Sometimes if the steering wheel is not lined up, a release pin in the column will not let the interlock move. Tilt columns can often have this problem.

Gear shift stuck in park - brake lights are working - we have checked all the fuses. How do we remove the cover on the shift panel?

First check for a loose vacuum hose to the brake petal. Most models use this safety for engaging the tranny by depressing the brake petal and then selecting the drive or reverse gear.

My 2008 chevrolet impala gear shift is stuck in park. After working and wiggling it a lil, it shifts into gear. This started last night. When leaving work it was fine. After i picked my son up from...

This is a common issue on '06+ Impalas, and is most frequent when parking on an incline. It can be minimized by engaging the parking brake before putting the car in Park.

Your brake light switch system controls the shift interlock system, you'll need to check that system first.
Could be a shift interlock swith has gone faulty or the linkage is out of adjustment.

Check that link out, could be a solenoid issue or it could be that a wiring harness is going bad/fried:

2008 Impala gear shift is locked. What do I do?

If you look under the dash, and press the brake with your hand, you will see the brake press against a little button, that switch unlocks your gearhift so you can select a gear, that is most likely bad, change that and your problem will be fixed. hope this helps.

Shift gear won't move. The shift lever won't push in. How do i fix it?

make sure the brake lights work, thats what unlocks the shifter, when you step on the brake it sends power to the shifter unlock soliniod,if brake lights out check fuses, if they work then may be a bad soliniod, check your manual, theres a bypass lever on some cars so if you have a problem like this you are able to get car out of park. hope this helps.
