Its built into the door latch
Normally there is a switch on the frame of the car. Open the driver's door and look up near the front fender; between the door and the frame there should be a push-button type switch. That switch works on the premise of when the door is open, the switch pushes outward which closes the circuit and lights the dome light and when the door is closed the switch is pushed inward by the door itself which opens the circuit and the dome light turns off. If it's not in the front area there, check the door jamb (where the door latches when it's closed) and see if there is a push-button type switch there.
Normally, there is also a three-position switch up on the dome light. Three position means off/on/dome; it should slide from side to side. With the door open, position the switch to where the dome light lights and shut the door, if the light turns off when the door closes, you are set. If it stays on, push the switch to the position opposite of where it was when you first looked at it; the light should then turn off and then turn on when you open the door.
If nothing I have described above happens, you will ahve to take your car to a mechanic and ask them to look at it...but I am betting you are going to be ok with what I have given you. Good luck!
SOURCE: Kelli says to move switch for dome light to dome
That particular switch is on the dome light itself. It'll have three settings, Off, On, and Dome. Just like it says, the Off position makes sure the dome light never comes on, the On position makes sure the dome light is always on and the Dome position makes sure the dome light comes on when you open the door.
