My 2004 Chrysler Sebring blows our cool air only when idling AND driving in town. On the interstate it blows out hot air. Sometimes it will blow out warm air in town if I'm going 35 or 40 mph. Its a tad annoying because I can leave it sit for several minutes and the engine thermostat will read a little under the halfway mark on the gauge, so I am assuming that the car itself is heating up just fine. I don't even know where to begin! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open or low anti freeze

A mechanic would check for voltage at the ac compressor and the freon charge when the ac stops working.
If the compressor is cutting on and off the idle speed will change.

I would and sometimes you have to hold the recharge hose down on the fitting with some pressure to get it to take the R134.

Cooling fans working? If you notice the air getting warm mostly while stopped, probaby cooling fans not turning on. if the fans are working properly, may be low on freon and need a recharge.

One thing to consider is your thermostat and water pump. If somehow, your thermostat is stuck open, your engine won't get up to temperature. Also, a bad waterpump won't move coolant thru the heater core. Both of these situations should show up on your engine temperature, making it hot or cold...but sometimes they don't show up if your driving pattern doesn't tax the engine..My daughter's car had a bad electric cooling fan , and never was a problem, unless she was stuck in traffic...
