I M REPAIRING IGNITION SWITCH ON A91 CHEVY S 10 BLAZER TAHOE 4.3 WHEN REMOVING IG. SWITCH ON TOP STEERING COLUMN THERE WAS ANOTHER SWITCHON TOP OF IG. SWITCH WITHN A LITTLE THIN BAR GOING INTO IT WHAT IS THIS SWITCH FOR HOW CAN DIAGNOS IF IT IGNITION SWITCH THATS BAD I ALREADY REPLACED BATTERY ALTERNATOR STARTER IGNITION WON T CRANK NO FIRE TO SOLENOID

The ignition lock cylinder in your 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe has to be replaced if the key will insert but not turn the ignition. For older vehicles, this is a relatively common issue that is typically easy to fix. To access the ignition lock cylinder, you must first remove the steering wheel. The cylinder can be removed and the outdated one with a new one once the steering wheel has been relocated out of the way. Before restoring the steering wheel, make sure the replacement cylinder is securely fastened to prevent any additional issues.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Disable the SIR System.
2. Battery negative cable.
3. Knee bolster and IP steering column reinforcement. NOTICE: The steering column should never be supported by only the lower support bracket alone, damage to the column lower bearing adapter could result.
4. Lower support bracket from vehicle (2 bolts).
5. Upper column support from IP (2 bolts).
6. Lower steering column so that it rests on the driver seat.
7. Ignition switch wiring protector.
8. Ignition switch retaining screw and nut.
9. Ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors from IP harness.
10. Turn signal switch connector from column harness.
11. Ignition switch, harness, and connector. Important

o DO NOT splice ignition switch wires.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Ignition switch, securing with retaining screws.

o Adjust ignition switch. Steering Column Unit Repair.

2. Turn signal switch connector to column harness.
3. Ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors to IP harness.
4. Ignition switch wiring protector.
5. Raise steering column to support bracket.
6. Two bolts to upper support bracket. Do not tighten fully at this time.
7. Bolt and nut to lower support bracket.

o Align column to instrument panel opening. A small shim (wedge) placed between the instrument panel column support bracket and the column can be used to hold the column stationary while tightening the upper support bolts.
o Upper and lower column support bolts and nuts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).

8. IP steering column reinforcement plate and knee bolster.
9. Battery negative cable.
10. Enable the SIR system.

Remove lower dash panel, under steering wheel, there will be a bracket that holds steering wheel, remove both 15mm nut's that point up, not the 13mm bolt's the screw into the colum , steering wheel will come down enough where you will see the ignition switch on the top side of the colum, the switch will be screw to the colum with the head light dimer switch.

there is a spring loaded rod in the steering column and that has broke most likely.

Hi,

If you are trying to remove the steering wheel to change the ignition switch, then you may not have to. The switch is on the steering column about 1/2 down towards the floor, and has a rod that runs from the key cylinder & locking part. You dont need to remove the steering wheel, but if you do so, I suggest you to take some help from some Paint and Body shop so that they can direct you to do it properly and safely.

sounds like your steering lock is messed up. there is a bar that slides up and down on top of the inside of the column just in front of the steering wheel. it may be stuck.. try rocking the wheel back and forth while doing the same with the key

The best thing to do is to buy a Chilton,s repair manual. It has step by step procedures. You can get one at most auto parts stores. They coast anywhere from $10-$30 dollars.

you need to replace the electrical part of switch?If os it is down on column under dash will be two bolts holding on with the dimmer switch also
