1996 Astro AWD 4.3L V6 308,000Km engine hesitation/surging

1996 Astro AWD 4.3L V6 308,000Km

I have a hesitation or fuel surge problem. What are the likely causes?

Symptoms: when in drive and accelerating, it will start hesitating as it changes from 1st to 2nd. It will do the same from 2nd to 3rd and recently has started surging/hesitating at highway speed. If I keep the van in 1 (ie. 1st gear), it is smooth to accelerate, but as I ease off on the gas when reaching 30km/h it will start surging. So it seems like whenever the engine is at high idle and I ease off on the gas, it will hesitate/surge. Happens in temperatures from -20 to +7. Didn't happen much in the summer when temps were warm. Sometimes it won't hesitate/surge at all! (totally frustrating...especially when I take it into the shop and they can't get it to hesitate) I've ran a couple bottles of fuel system cleaner through and nothing changed. Something electrical? Please help, I love this van and don't want to get rid of it.

Had the same problem with 95 astro. Turns out the transmission fluid was low. In cold weather it was even lower causing slipping.

My 1992 chevy g20 van surges and i'm not sure exactly why. I changed the pcv valve, fuel filter, spark plugs, and air filter. What are some possibilities

My first thought would be a vacuum leak in one of the hoses. Rubber hoses get brittle with age and even a small crack in a hose may cause surging. Happened to me in a Lumina.

My f-250 99 v 10th sputters when I accelerate sometimes stalls why?

it could be just about anything. first start by checking plugs, wires, and coil.Engine hesitation, which is normally most apparent during acceleration, is a condition that often results from either abnormal fuel flow to an engine or abnormal electrical conduction to a vehicle's spark plugs. Bad spark plug wires, whether they degrade internally or develop cracks and breaks in their outer coverings that cause electrical interference, can cause an engine to hesitate. Engine Surging, Engine surging is a common symptom of bad spark plug wires, especially if the wires have cracks or breaks in their outside insulation, heres the symtoms for a bad fuel filter. Engine Hesitation, Engine Stalling, Rough Engine Idle, Reduced Engine Power. if really plugged it will stop fuel flow and car will not start. just give it a good tuneup, and go from there! good-day!

Truck shifts out of gear at 50 to 60 miles an hour jumps in and out of overdrive at those speeds

check the tps ( throttle position sensor ). a bad tps causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. am not saying this does the trick, but it is a good starting point. good-day !

Engine surges especially at low speeds

Disconnect your MAF sensor and take the Astro for a ride. If you notice an improvement; Try cleaning the MAF with CRC MAF sensor cleaner.
