Rubbing metal noise coming from timing chain.

There is a noise coming from the timing chain. It sounds like metal rubbing against metal. It gets worse when you accelerate. I have had a mechanic listen to it and he confirmed it was the timing chain. How can I fix it?

Dear Rubbing Noise,
The correct and long term repair for this would be to replace the chain and timing chain tensioners.Only saying to replace the chain seeing as how it's been slapping on metal, where it's not supposed to.This will cure your problem and you will be a happy camper, HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

2005 ford focus c-max 16V Zetec-S SHDC L4 belt or chain ?

there are 2 engines 2.0 / 2.3 and they both have chains if you are getting a rattling sound from the cover front the guides are worn or the chain tensioner are worn the guides have nylon chain runners on them and if they wear down the chain is rubbing against the metal arm that the nylon is mounted on if this is a high mileage motor I would suspect this because the chain can not be kept tight because of the worn guides have now caused the chain to be slack and its rubbing against the front engine cover but you must be sure before opening it up that its not the water pump or belt tensioner pulleys making the noise if that's what your hearing the water pump will sound like a marble tumbling around in a can the pulley's will sound like constant friction grinding of the dry bearing inside against the bearing race there also may be a chirping sound of the belt being made from it grabbing each time the bearing catches inside and releases the chain will sound like a constant rattling as if you drag a metal chain on a ceramic tile floor and engine running condition will be rough idling and missing a bit especially when you come to an abrupt stop it may stall

How do you know if the timing chain is going out . 97 lincoln contenintal

I suggest you ask an experienced person listen to the noise.

Hydraulic tappets can click for a while after starting and usually aren't anything to worry about unless the noise becomes louder, harsher and more pronounced as the engine speed increases.

If the clicking is suspected to be timing chain related it would be very unwise to ignore it.

its likely the fan. if it sounds like metal clicking or grinding, its the fan bearings.

it could also simply be the plastic fan case rattling/rubbing against another hood accessory.

Ive taken the timing chain cover off my 96 infiniti i30 and there seems to be nothing lose. Chains are all tight, hydrolics for the oil are fine, the tensioners are all fine. What could be the cause then?...

check that the wear pads on the tensions are not worn through to metal mount
for chains to rub on each means that a shaft will have excessive axial movement( worn thrust washes )

There is a product sold by autozone.com called 'DE-SQUEAK' by CRC chemicals that sprays on the brake rotors with the caliper off, and when dry will reduce the squeaky noise of applying brakes.

What does your noise sound like?

Are the tires the right size for the car?

Sounds like you have a cv joint problem, or the front brake pads are worn down to metal and rubbing against the rotor, also could be the wheel bearing. Better have it checked.

After car wash, brakes made a screeching noise. How do I get rid of this? It sounds like metal rubbing against metal so I haven't moved it.

SOUNDS LIKE U HAVE METALLIC PADS. TOTALLY NORMAL. THE PADS WILL BED IN AND THE SCREECHING SOUND WILL GO AWAY. SUGGEST U GET A BETTER NON-METALLIC PAD INSTALLED IF U DON'T WANT TO HEAR SCREECHING NOISES EVERY TIME THE PADS GET WET. I'M ALSO ASSUMING U HAVE NO MORE THAN 50,000 MILES ON THE PADS AND THE PADS AND DISCS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE.
