How many purge valves does a 1997 grand prix (V6-3800 3.8L) have?

purge valve wouldn't have anything to do with it . Have exhaust back pressure tested , plugged catalytic converter ! Take an have it tested if you don't know how . Is your check engine light on ? Would have a EVAP code if something wrong with purge solenoid .

You have to remove anything that is connected and in the way of the intake. Remove the fuel rail, the EGR valve and supply pipe from the manifold, the map sensor, the vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator, the alternator and support bracket, the water pipes for the throttle body, and the bolts that hold it down.

code p0446 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system vent control--circuit malfunction===causes--wiring---EVAP canister purge valve--ECM. Change the purge valve.

1655 is an evap purge code ,evap solenoid is under the hood,plastic lines
with a green test cap in the line.

Hi, are you saying the trouble code is P0455, or have you not scanned the car? If you have not scanned the car, please get a free scan at you local parts chain and send us the codes.
If you have P0455, check the EVAP hose from the fuel tank to the charcoal cannister for leaks. Inspect the cannister and the hose to the purge valve. Make sure the purge valve is not stuck open.

you have a cracked vaccum hose going to your fuel regulator and purge valve.

the purge valve is located on the drivers side of engine, right next to the egr valve.

Hello! Does your vehicle have spark? If not; Pull a plug and test for spark. Is the engine in your vehicle supercharged? If not and it is a either the 3.1L or the 3.8L then the lack of fuel flow is caused by a device known as a; "Vapor canister purge valve". If this component is defective (does not purge) fuel will not flow. It can be purchased at most auto part stores for around $25.
