Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

1 Answer

Reverse lights not working on 2000 Silverado, 4.8L, 4x4, 5 speed manual transmission. I've checked bulbs and fuses. Vehicle has around 86k miles on it. I'm the original owner and it has been garage kept. I don't believe corrosion is the issue. Where is reverse light switch on this vehicle?

Inside the transmission. climb under neath and make sure all the plugs into the trnas are secure. look to see if any wires caught something and broke.

Reversing lights not working

It may be a bad back-up light switch on the transmission. Look for a two-wire connector on the transmission or transaxle, although it may be included in a wiring harness for the transaxle. If you find the two wires for the reverse light switch, you can jumper the two wires together, and with key on, the reverse lights should be on, verifying a bad reverse light switch. Screw it out and replace. But if still no lights, there may be a wiring break or a wiring problem going to the lights.
Good luck.

I have a 2000 ford taurus and i have no reverse lights.I changed the bulbs and checked the fuse. The brake lights and tail lights work.my high mount brake light does not work.

The reverse lights work off the manual lever position switch..When you open the hood look on the driver side right over the transmission,..Youll see where the shifter linkage hook up..Right on the linkage on the transmission is a sensor which moves when you select different gear..

I have replaced reverse light bulb, however new bulb will not work. I have checked the bulb, the fuses and the wiring, any ideas why can't get it work. Also indicator on dash still present.

The reverse light switch is a mechanical device used to control operation of the vehicle reverse lights. The switch is designed to complete the circuit when reverse gear is selected allowing reverse light operation (manual transmission only).

I have a 2000 chevy silverado with a maual trans. The reverse lights won't come on. All other lights work, I've switched the bulbs out and checked the fuses and they are all fine.

I would take the bulbs out and put the trans in reverse, the check for voltage with a test light or multimeter. If no voltage is present then it's more likely a problem with the reverse switch which is located on the trans.

Tach and speedometer don't work transmission won't shift , I had blew a fuse with the a trailer not being wired correctly. Checked all fuses in fuse boxs. Service light is on says speed sencor. But had no...

The speed sensor is necessary to tell your transmission when and if to shift. The PCM uses the information from it, plus the way your vehicle is accelerating to determine shifting, and if the sensor went out, or the PCM went bad, then you'll lose your transmission shifting. You can shift it manually though. There is also a fuse under the hood that provides the transmission with power, and of course, if any wiring or connections are bad, will cause the same problem. Hope this is was you're looking for.

Back up lights not working

Hi,
The Reverse lights work on a plunger mechanism, mounted at the reverse gear position of the stick-shift. sometimes actually within the gear-box ( transmission itself )
I,d remove the bulb(s) and ensure the earth connections are good. clean and tight.
You could also try testing to see if you have 12 volts, running through the circuit, with a multi-meter or tester. i,d suggest purchasing a vehicle manual. invaluable tool for any vehicle.

regards mike.
