Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

Bobby and Jean, Thanks for the rating and update! Now that you have heat, best wishes for a warm Holiday season!

I have cold air blowing from the heater on my 2001 Gand Caravan. It will sometimes start to blow warm to kind of hot when driving but at an idle the are is cool. There is a small leak on the passenger side...

seems like you are losing pressure in the system as the coolant gets hotter it builds up pressure if you have a small leak when it gets to a certain pressure it will blow out and you lose pressure and the heater will blow cold, run the motor till it gets hot and look for coolant or steam coming out, check the coolant cap while your at it

Is there some type of fuse on my 2003 Dodge Grand caravan that I may need to change if it isnt blowing warm air, when the heat is on?

Hello, if its not blowing hot air its probably either the thermostate is stuck open or your heater core is stopped up.

Heater does not blow hot only cold air. Every so often the heater blows hot . When driving on freeway the heater works sometimes but turns cold when at red light.

Check the radiator level, if it low the hot coolant will not reach the heater. Second may be the water pump, as it wares the clearance increases and the efficiency goes way down and it cannot pump the coolant unless the engine revs are up.....

Heater slow to work

this sounds normal in very cold conditions! The air is never hot when you first start the car in any car, until the engine warms up, then the heater air will also warm. You could check your anti-freeze level for the first thing. If you don't have enough anti-freeze, it won't run through your heater to give you the proper heat

Heater on driver-side blows barely warm air other vents blow cold

the most probabale cause of this would be a disfunctional hear core if you replace your heater your heater will more than likley work the the way it's supposed to
