Anytime i start moving in drive from a dead stop i hear a clunking in the rear of jeep.
I opened the rear differential and noticed the ring and pinion gears were worn so i replaced them and the noise is still there. The universal joints in rear shaft are also good. This clunking noise also happens when the jeep is on a steep incline.
If i drive slowly on flat road the clunking goes away but if i give engine power the clunking is heard.
You need to check the gears in the pumpkin, take off the part of the driveshaft that connects to the pumpking (front, and rear) and spin the part the comes out from the pumpkin by hand
spin it fast in one direction then move to the other, like my jeep you will find that the sound is comming from binding of the gears. if they bind you now know what you have to do. take off the cover inspect for metal and chip teeth
May be the gears in the rear end or check your motor mounts, ive had the noise and it was motor mounts
