If the car type is manual transmission:
- Perform the clutch and pressure plate test.
PROCEDURE:
- Pull up the hand brake, shift the lever to 1st gear, rev up to 2000 rpm, release the clutch pedal at once.
- If the engine does not stall, replace the clutch, pressure plate, clutch bearing, regrind the fly wheel and pressure plate precisely.
- If the engine stalls, the clutch system is OK and do not need any clutch system repairing.
- If the clutch system is OK, check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).
If the car type is automatic transmission:
- Check the transmission control cable adjustment.
- Check vacuum leaks through intake manifold, vacuum hoses, PCV valve and throttle control cable adjustment, MAP sensor and Throttle Plate Position sensor adjustment (9.8 percent or 0 degrees at TP sensor fully closed position).
- Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid level in the transmission with the car on level floor, engine start, gear lever in P.
If the problem persists, contact a competent technician or service personnel.
SOUND LIKE FAULTY STARTER CLUTCH INTERLOCK SWITCH LOCATED NEAR THE UPPER END OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL OR YOU HAVE A FAULTY STARTER RELAY.CHECK TO SEE IF POWER GOING TO THE CLUTCH INTERLOCK SWITCH WIRES WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL PRESS DOWN. IS YES SWITCH IS BAD.IF NO POWER GOING TO CLUTCH INTERLOCK SWITCH YOU HAVE FAULTY STARTER RELAY OR BLOWN STARTER FUSE.
There are two switches. The one you probably want is the starter/clutch interlock switch which is located at near the upper end of the clutch pedal. This switch engages your clutch. If engine wont turn over with clutch depressed and key to start, loosen the locknut and turn the cylinder clockwise to move the switch in closer to the clutch, try again. If problem persists, check ignition switch wiring for shorts/bad connections; there is no voltage from the starter relay to the switch, or no continuity between the two terminals on the switch, or the switch is bad. Hope this helps you out
there are two type of transmission for your 94 civic it's better prefered to use the one with a clutch pump rather than the one with clutch cable their mounting are almost the same and the shift linkage should come in complete set
you have civic SI type R with the K20A engine and 6sp transmission? correct?
yes the clutch is adjustable.
loosen the clutch pedal position switch(lower of the 2 switches) locknut and back off the clutch pedal position switch.
loosen the clutch push-rod locknut and turn the push-rod in or out to get the desired height and stroke of the pedal.
tighten the push-rod locknut
with the clutch pedal released, turn the clutch pedal position switch in until it contacts the clutch pedal.
turn the clutch pedal position switch in an additional 3/4 to 1 turn.
tighten the clutch pedal position switch locknut.
loosen the clutch interlock switch(the upper switch) locknut and then the interlock switch.
press the clutch pedal to the floor.
release the pedal about 1/2 in. from the fully depressed position, and hold it there. adjust the position of the interlock switch so that the engine will start with the clutch pedal in this position.
tighten the interlock switch locknut.
clutch pedal stroke should be: 5.1 - 5.5 in clutch pedal height should be: 7.76 in
if adjusting the clutch doesn't help with the transmission feeling notchy, may be the syncros.
