Hard to shift into first gear

You need to hook up a scanner to be sure that the computer is sending the information to the transmission to go into reverse.

The 5 flashes sounds like a fault code. This unit is a four wheeler, true? Might try posting in the correct section or perhaps call a dealer and beg code interpretation.

sounds like your tranny is about to kick the dirt..

first check the gear oil or replace it before you change the automatic gear completely

Check the output sensor on the transmission,
With out a speedometer the transmission does not know how fast you are going or when it should shift

Check the universal joints in the drive shaft to rear axel. 120,000 miles, its time for replacement. Safety hazard exist, check soon. Also transmission filter should have been serviced at 60,000 miles. Its time.

What engine?

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Hi,
Sounds like a worn/bad/damage transmisison or engine mount. These hold the engine and trans in place and usually have a rubber part that can wear out.

Either a trans shop or regular mechanic will need to diagnose.

I don't know the cost.

could be the gear box mounts also
it could need a good service
