To disable the alarm system in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, try the following steps:
Close all doors and windows.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
Within 10 seconds, press the lock button on the driver's door five times. The alarm system should turn off.
Note: The above steps assume that your 2001 Chevy Tahoe has a factory-installed alarm system. If it has an aftermarket alarm system, the steps to disengage it may be different.
Hi Dev:
First, let's confirm that you are using the correct key.
Next, the key won't turn unless the transmission is in Neutral, or Park.
If the wheels were under tension, maybe turned against a curb, when the vehicle was stopped, there may be pressure against the steering lock mechanism, and that may be stopping the ignition from turning.
Try turning the steering wheel to releive the presssure and see if you can jiggle the shift lever. That should release the ignition.
Hope this helps.
As long as you're not stuck up against a curb or any tension on the steering wheel , keys wear out and don't release every thing in the lock , guess you must have tried another key ? Sorry , lock guys maybe next option .
Try turning key around or use a spare key, make sure steering wheel isn't being forced against the internal lock. Are the wheels against a curb or object? if so turn steering wheel to relieve pressure on ignition lock. other wise lock cylinder maybe worn out and will need replaced. Good luck!
sounds like your steering column lock is binding you need to slightly turn the steering one way or the other while turning the key at the same time. this happens if the steering wheel is turned after removing the key. or when parked against a curb.
Sounds like the anti-theft lock is stuck. Try having a friend turn the wheel to the left, hard, while you turn the ignition key. (Works if the front wheels are not locked up against a curb)
take a small hammer and with the key removed tap the lock cylinder. then retry it the tumblers may be sticking. eventually you will need to replace the lock cylinder but this may help u get it going now
