2002 BMW 325xi. 160k miles.
Filled my tank up and the next day I start the car, the check engine light comes on.
It was already mid-afternoon so I decided to wait til the next morning to take it in to the dealership/shop to get looked at. The next morning, I started the car and it halfway started and then died. Then I tried again, and it wouldn’t turn over. I waited a couple minutes and still, it would not turn over. The electrical works, radio works, etc. etc. Is the check engine light turning on the day before related at all to the car not starting/turning over?? How do I know if I need a jump start, or if I’ll need to tow the car in? Could this be due to the cold weather, or what exactly?
The check engine light is a warning to let you know something needs your attention to be repaired I would try getting a jump. Could be a bad battery. Lets get the battery charged and tested. Cold weather will stop your car from starting if you have a weak battery. You dont need to tow the car just take the battery to Autozone or Walmart to be charged and tested for cca...cold cranking amps
I would try to jump it to see if the starter engages and the engine runs, if it does you have a connection problem between the engine starter and the battery, if it does the same thing with cables then you will probably have to tow it in to the shop. I do not think your problem is related to cold weather, but it could very well be related to the check engine light. Exactly what the check engine light is on for I can not say with out a code, but I agree with your thinking about taking it to the shop. Hope this helps, let me know.
