If the car drives normally at all speeds then your tires and balance are good. If your steering wheel shakes at high speeds while you are braking then your front rotors are warped. If it your feel the shake in the pedal or seat then your rear drums/rotors are warped. Most balance issues only occur at certain speeds +40. if you get a shake at lower speeds i would suspect a bad tire or a bent rim.

It sounds like you may have more than one problem here. First I would investigate Front End Alignment and ALL Steering/Suspension components for excessive wear and/or looseness. Second I would Inspect the Brake Rotors and Pads for uneven wear. Third I would check the Tires for uneven wear and balance. Many things can cause these symptoms: Worn out Ball Joints, defective Shock Absorbers/Struts. Worn out Tie Rod Ends, Idler Arm, even the Steering Gear Box can be part of the problem. Brake Rotors and Tires can be out of Balance with either one causing the problem over 60 MPH. I strongly suggest having your vehicle inspected by an ASE Certified Front End and Brake specialist immediately. It is very dangerous to drive a vehicle with these symptoms.

SOURCE: the front end shakes when i hit the brakes when i

you might wana get the rotors and the tie rods checked. if your rotors need to be turned or replaced it can cause the shaking. the same goes for the tie rods. usually the outer tie rods get damaged after hitting bumps or pot holes at great speeds and cause the tie rod to create a small space between the inner and outer tie rod .

Steering wheel shakes at 60-65mph

When you hit the brakes, or just driving down the road ?
Most wheel balancing machines only duplicate road speeds of 40 mph. So it could be a tire or wheel.

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. There is a "violent" vibration that occurs only when you are going 40-60 MPH and you hit a bump or pot hole on the highway. The front end begins to...

Vibration from about 40-60 mph is usually attributed to wheel balancing, but the onset when you hit a bump seems to indicate play in the steering linkages (tie rods etc) or suspension members and stabiliser bar rubbers but you had that all checked out, that brings us back to the wheel balancing.

Stering wheel shakes at 30 to 40 miles an hour

Put your spare tire on one side of the front. Drive it, if it does not help, replace the spare and then try removing the other front tire. Drive it and see if it helped.

The tire that caused the vibration probably threw a weight or has a broken belt. Have that tire checked and repaired, then have the Tire shop put the spare back in the trunk.

If it is not a tire problem check your tierod ends. They connect both front wheels and if there is a lot of play, you can get shake and wobble from the slack in the frontend.

Sometimes front Rotors can cause a shake when you hit the brakes. If the car shakes without pressing the brakes, then its the tires or frontend.

On my 2006 Ram 2500 truck. Last week I hit a bump while traveling about 60 MPH. The front tire started shaking, I thought I had a blow out. When I slowed down to about 30 it all stopped. When I...

A few possibilities.... bent rim, broken steel belt in tire, or a wheel weight that keeps the tire/wheel combination in balance has fallen off. Not sure how big the bump was, so other options would be suspension related. I would check the tire and/or wheel first.

When jeep gets between 50 and 55 wheel starts shaking . I get up to 60 and it stops. Had new tires put on 2,000 miles ago.

Check if rims are complete round w/o any damage, check if the wheel bearing is OK, then remove wheels on rear axle and check if the backside of the rims are clean, no rust etc.. clean up the the wheel hub, so the rim sits total close to it. Tighten the wheel nuts with 140 to 150 N/m. If your car start shaking again, try to get the wheels balanced.
