Pull the Door Handle on the INSIDE of the REAR DOOR, Pull HARD... THEN PUSH IN on the door and then pull back. Mine releases with a Bump of my hip. This is a common issue with these trucks. If you can not get it loose that way, then use a flat screwdriver once you pull the handle to get it to release. You can adjust it to make it work normally,,, I am just too lazy to do mine
Remove the interior door panel this can be done with the door closed. peel back the moisture barrier, look inside the door and you will see a latch mechanism with two cables next to it, the top cable releases the top latch and the bottom cable releases the bottom latch, the top latch cable is probably not mounted to the latch (anchored) you will probably have to replaace it with a new one, then it should work fine. Hope this helps, let me know
remove inner door panel & check linkage to lower latch. if connected then watch linkage while moving handle, if linkage seems to bow or bend then lower lacth is frozen & needs to be replaced.
There is a slot where the cable is suppose to lock in. When the cable end brakes it falls out of the slot. I put cable over slot and duct taped in place till i get new cables. There are 2 cables 1 on top and 1 on bottom.
The bottom latch was rusted locked. I had to pull on bottom rod after top was already released and kick out the bottom of the door. I had to replace the bottom latch.
