My key won't turn in the ignition.

My key will not turn in the ignition. It is in park. I even tried to turn the wheel a little while attempting to turn the key. Any advice will be much appreciated.

First try using the key both ways to see if one side is worn out. then , if that does not work try putting some dry graphite in the lock cyl and wiggling the key. you can also try tappin on the lock cyl with a hammer while working the key to see if you can rattle loose seized tumblers. if none of this works you can get a hold of your local chrysler dealer, and they cn cut you a new key by code NOT BY COPYING YOUR OLD WORN OUT KEY using your vehicle vin number. if none of these work you will need to get the lock cyl drilled out (best done by a proffessional) hope this helps

Option 2 would be that you went to a party and someone played a joke on you by switching the keys when you weren't looking.

Try locking/unlocking one of the doors manually. If it works there, then ignore the party quip. :)

As posted by jamesearl 80, have a new key cut by lock code care of the local dealer. You'll need the VIN and maybe the proof of ownership (title).

My key will not turn in the ignition in my rx400h, 2006

Sometimes when the car is parked with the wheels turned to one side, it puts pressure on the key.
Try turning the steering wheel a little more each way, while turning the key, to release the pressure.
Hope this helps.

How can I get key out which is stuck in ignition of 2008 cobalt. It also won't start

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Ignition stuck key won't turn to start car!

Gear shift is not totally in the park position - had the same problem with a 2011 Acura TL - a rubber band kept the gear shift lever from totally seating in the park position.

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

Stuck eldorado key in DTS ignition now car won't start

Make sure your steering wheel isn't locked. Sometimes a key won't turn until you jiggle the wheel while trying to turn the key.

The ignition wont turn at all and car is locked in park position.

IF you are parked with your wheels turned a little, sometimes the steering can get into kind of a bind and the steering wheel lock could be causing your problem. Did you try to move your steering wheel around a little bit to see if it will allow the key to turn? Is your key worn. I have seen worn keys that will cause your problem. Also the tumblers in your ignition could me messed up. You could try putting some dry graphite lube on your key and slide it in and out of your ignition several times to get lubrication into the tumblers and see if that helps.

When i shift it into park and turn the engine off and then proceed to pull the key out it wont relaese.

your ignition switch may be going bad. suggest this, turn key to off position, wiggle sterring wheel while removing your key. this won't last long though. you can try not stressing the steering by not parking on a hill,or parking the car where the steerings going to be in a [bind] or it may be only a ignition switch going bad,you can try this 1st though, while you're attempting to turn your key on, turn your steering wheel to right and left gently,if this works, your ignition switch is worn.if you continue to park the car in a bind,[on a hill] [up or down] it will get worse. and you will have to replace the ignition switch.

I can't start the car!

Try turning the steering wheel a bit when using the key. The steering wheel lock puts pressure on the lock cylinder to keep the wheel locked. If this pressure is high, it can keep you from using the key.
