They are usually a combination of bars one over the other and sort of spring loaded and locked by clamps you may have to go to what we in Canada call an auto wreckers and see if you can buy the whole assembly and replace it., all the bars if locked in place properly will open the trunk and hold it open until you press or push it closed

I have a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. I have the same problem that many other people have. The trunk latch bends the U hook mounted on the car. The U hook is mounted on a very week piece of metal that...

if where the "U" hook is mounted is just sheet metal the that area will have to be strengthened. Get a piece of flat bar about 3/16 " thick and remove the hook, place the flat bar behind the sheet metal. Make it long enough to be able to drill outside the width of the hook. Mark holes for the hook and drill. place the flat bar behind the rear and do the hook back up
This will place the flat bar behind the sheet metal in place
now drill smaller holes for pop rivets and fix the bar to the sheet metal
This mod will spread the load over a greater area of the hook and reduce the sheet metal bending

2005 pontiac sunfire hesitates to start after fueling only?

Check the gas cap vent. If it's plugged, that could affect fuel flow. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? It could be loaded up and causing too much of a pressure drop; this would be exacerbated by vent problem.

This morning I opened my trunk to my 2055 Pontiac Sunfire and when I went to close it the black casing around the latch on the frame of the car came off so I put it back on and when I went to close the...

You may have inadvertently locked the latch when putting the plastic piece back on look at the latch mechanism and where the latch locks on the bar put a screw driver in the latch mechanism and then operate the lat to open it should open up then try shutting the trunk lid do it with the plastic piece off first to be sure thats the problem because if you have the plastic piece on you may make it nearly impossible to open it up. Then if it works put the plastic piece back on then make sure the latch is open and then close it does it work? if yes you did it if not write back to me for more help. Thanks for using fix-ya.

I have a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. The trunk will not lock/latch. When I have the trunk lid open, i can get it to lock with my fingers but cannot get it to latch when it is shut, how do i fix it?

Mine also had this problem within the first few months of ownership. I took it to the dealership and they said it was a "known issue" with the latching mechanism. They used some type of tool to pull the latch forward and it worked like a charm. It was free of charge at a Pontiac Dealership. Hope this helps.

2005 sunfire pontiac frond door

It is likely the handle or rod came of the lock mechanism. YOu will have to remove all the screws in the door panel and then take a pry bar or huge flat-tipped screwdriver and pry the panel off the door. Then take a look inside to see what doesn't look right. You may see the rod hanging there or it may be lying on the bottom of the door. It should snap back in place, if it doesn't stay in place, then a new little plastic fastner will need to be installed to hold the rod in place.

How do i put down the back seat of my 2005 pontiac sunfire?

The pull down on a 05 is in the trunk. There is 2 loops on the underside of the upper trunk body drivers side. Pull loop and push seat forward from trunk until it releases. Left side loop is for left side half of seat and right is for right.
