1997 Dodge Avenger w/2.5 v6 won't Idle smooth and dies

I resently change out a water pump and had to take apart the complete top end of the engine except the cylinder heads. After putting back together the engine I have a problem with rough Idle and stalls at the stop signs. I recheck all the vacum hoses and check for vacum leaks and can't fine any. i also replaced all plug wires and spark plugs . Runs great going down the road but has a hesitation off Idle

Check your EGR valve. It may be stuck open. I had a similar problem 2 years ago on my 97 avenger w/ 2.5L V6. Engine idled rough and would die when I stopped at a stop sign unless I feathered the gas pedal as I coasted to a stop. Replaced EGR valve, problem solved.

I have a similar problem. I'm replacing the fuel pump and might get an aftermarket coil. The coil on my 5.2L Dakota is right behind the radiator on the front right side of the engine. Stupid spot! I'm surprised it hasn't melted!

How hard is it to replace the water pump on a 1997 Dodge Avenger 2.5 V-6?

c6f48b0.gif The pump is driven by the timing belt so you basically need to take the front of the motor apart. It is quite a job to get at it but is doable. If you are going to do the job I'd suggest changing the timing belt, tensioner pulleys and the cam and crankshaft seals as well, may as well do some preventative maintenance while it is apart. I've got the whole proceedure and will make u a copy if you want.

My water pumps pouring out radiator fluid on my 97 dodge avenger

Go to the autozone website at autozone, com and register your vehicle. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual for your vehicle. The steps for replacing the water pump on your car should be found there. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

97 dodge avenger-the tube behind water pump is

the dealer should be able to get these. you may have to remove the intake manifold or see what you have to remove in order to do the job. its not something an amateur should try to do. They usually leak because of poor maint, and degraded coolant. If its leaking, more cooling problems are likely on the way.

O2 sensor

are you sure that it is still the O2 censor? are you assuming because the check engine light is still on? because you have to reset it after fixing something you just disconnect your battery completely for a bit like 15mins and then reconnect it and the light should go away.

My 1997 Dodge Avenger's engine won't start

Try cam and/or crank sensor. If crank to cam timing isn't detected properly it'll crank all day but won't start. I had similar problem on my 2.5L V6 Avenger....drove home fine, no engine light, next morning it cranked, but wouldn't start. The crank sensor was faulty.
