Check all the fuses before you do anything else. After all a fuse provides power to the electronic box that controls the transmission. Other than that I would not advice on a more complicated troubleshooting since there is no way for you to test a bad transmission computer, even mechanic shops don't know how to test them. The only thing they would do is slap a known good one and see what happens.

Would appreciate hearing back from you as soon as - car wont get out of 2nd gear and I can't go anywhere fast, with all local garages top busy or shut until new year... Hopefully gear from you soon... !?

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo won't shift out of 1st gear.

Question edited for spelling of the model names.
Question moved to model category.

Are you in Limp Mode? Is the Check Engine Light on?

Some ideas here including pulling fuses. You probably need an auto electrician though.

I have grand cherokee 2001 limited the code p0700 is apper the gear is started scend shift espically in morinig

possible causes
Shorted or open circuit within Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM)
symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Driveability problems
- Transmission shifting problems
p0700 description
The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.

I have a 2004 jeep grand Cherokee, I have 1st gear manually from a complete stop, same with 2nd. But when I put it in drive, the engine revs at 3500 rpm, but I only travel 5-7 mph. Tcm trouble code p0700...

sounds like low transmission fluid, a dirty filter or both, to check the fluid level, open the hood leave the engine running put the transmission in neutral with the parking break on then pull out the dip-stick labled trans, wipe it off with a rag plug it back in then pull it our and look at the level. To see if there is a dirty filter look at the fluid if it is darkbrown or black and it smells burnt then you need to get your transmission flushed and the filter changed.

Error P0700. What is the cause? How to repair it?

P0700 JEEP - Transaxle Control System Malfunction
The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Driveability problems
- Transaxle shifting problems

Possible causes
- Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of transaxle control module

Tech notes: Since the P0700 is just and informative code, check the TCM for more codes to resolve the problem. So you'll have to have the dealer or another qualified shop/technician pull the transaxle codes from the TCM and go from there.

Good luck (remember to rate this answer)

2004 jeep grand cherokee engine management light on gear box won;t change up or down . had this problem a few times; just used to stop the car turn engine off @ back on car would drive ok, after a mile...

I had a similar issue on a grand cherokee '98 4.0L, and it was because the gearbox was overheating due to old oil and the fact that is was low on oil. Change gearbox oil and the filter inside the gearbox checked the two band tension and adjusted them and all was ok. the oil should be red or a dark pink. It would point more to this being the poblem if when it does change gear, the gear changes seam slow or slugish or change happens at higher engine revs. You may be able to get a fault code from ecu, by turning ign. to acc then on then off then on then off then on then off then off hen on again (code is displayed instead of odomitor reading as PXXXX or POXXXX). This could point you i one or more directions if oil seem to be correct.

P0700 code?

P0700 is a code that tells u the TCM [transmission Control Module] has requested that the PCM [Powertrain Control Module] turn on the check engine light, u now need to ge the TCM tested for the transmission fault code(s) that were stored when the check engine light was turned on by the TCM through and by the PCM

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited P0700 diagnostic problem

P0700 means there is a transmission fault code in the transmission controller. Since the transmission controller doesn't have a light attached, it tells the engine controller to turn the light on using this code. You'll have to access the transmission controller to further diagnose the problem.
