Car shut off while driving. at first, wouldn't

Car shut off while driving. at first, wouldn't start, then it did, but wouldn't accelerate. then, with car at idle, a piece, mounted in front of the gas tank started clicking. this piece has an electrical connection, and has hose(s) going to a box located in the same area. This piece has a square part, and a round part also. When this part was clicking, the check engine light was blinking. I disconnected the positive battery cable, and reconnected it, now there is no check engine light on, but it will not rev up over 3900 rpm. could you tell me what the thing is in front of the gas tank? any ideas about my problem? it is a 2004 jeep liberty with a 3.7

change your spark plugs if they haven't been changed in awhile. check your tires for the propper psi there should be a sticker on the inside of your drivers door that will tell you recomended air pressures go by this not the recomendations on the tires. also where are you getting you gas does it contain ethanol sometimes this can burn faster.

check the fuel pump fuse/relay, could be just bad enough to cause an intermittent start/no start. and check fuel pressure, spark and the crank position sensor.

SOURCE: 2004 jeep grand cherokee idling problem. Revs motor 200 to 500 rpms higher while driving.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

SOURCE: '03 Jeep Liberty starts weakly and needs gas pedal to idle

Turning over is what the starter does to the engine ...you can turn an engine over with no spark plugs in it...but you can't start it. Turning over is cranking .....the starter turns (cranks) the engine over (comes from when you had to put a crank in the front of the engine and crank it.)
Does it crank normally but has trouble starting???????

Automatic Dodge neon SE 2002 will not start.. Ran error code got P1684. When I was driving it wouldn't get out of first gear, I put in park shut it off turned back on still wouldn't get out of first g

that code is set when you disconnect the battery. It can happen if you have bad connections. Sounds like you have a lot of things wrong.

My car starts only when boosted

Measure the voltage across the car battery with a volt meter with the alternator running .. It needs to read 13.4 volts or higher to charge the battery.

While driving my truck wouldn't accelerate over 20 miles, what would cause this?

This could be something as simple as a misfire or you could have killed your ******. Was the check engine light flashing when this was happening

I was driving down the hwy & it wouldn't let me accelerate anymore so I pulled over & shut off the car. well it wont start back up. it sounds like it's trying but wont

Hi Marie,
It is really hard to say without actually checking the car, but it sounds like you may be having charging system problems. Possibly a bad alternator, loose battery cable or the like. Low voltage at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will cause the PCM to go into "reduced power mode" - also known as "limp-in mode". This will limit your accelerator and shut off some of your electrical accessories while you are driving. If the battery voltage is low, this is what is keeping your car from re-starting. Engine overheating can also cause similar symptoms.
I guess the question is - did you have any warning lamps on when this happened? Was the "Check Engine" light on? Was the "battery" light coming on?

The best advise I can give you at this point is to get the car's computer network scanned for fault codes. Any fault codes stored will help to determine what is going on. The only other instruction I can give you is don't keep trying to start it. If the battery voltage is low, continuing to try starting it can cause the battery voltage to drop low enough to clear the memory in your PCM. This would not be good when it comes to trying to figure out wnat happened.
