2004 KIA Sorento - When I go to start in the morning it wont start. I remove the radiator/reservoir cap and there is pressure on a cold system. as soon as the pressure is released the chances of starting are greater but sometimes it still will not start. Thermostat? why pressure on a cold tank? ...bad cap?

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Kia Sorento that is leaking antifreeze

could be one of the two radiator hoses. There are also two hoses in back that go to the heater core. All of these connections attach to plastic nozzles on the radiator and also the ones on the heater core are plastic and can crack. Also check radiator condensor for leaks.

SOURCE: Radiator blockage?

I believe you have a head gasket blown or a cracked head. When you start it up COLD with the cap off, it would push water out immediately. Fill it with plain water and try this. It might not be a bad idea to perform a pressure test too. Also check for antifreeze in the oil. It will get milky looking and might even be over full. If this happens after warm-up, you may just have a plugged radiator. Have it professionally cleaned. The water pump vanes could also possibly be corroded off and it's not effectively displacing coolant. Hope this helps.

Changed radiator in my 2004 kia sorento has just the presurized fill/overflow tank. cant get antifreeze into system completely cant find a bleeder port. Squeezed upper and lower hoses to remove some air....

You'll have to jack up the front of the car, or safer yet, park the car facing up a large hill, and run the car with the overflow cap off while shaking it back and forth. It will take 5-10 minutes but you will get a lot of air out, after this add coolant and drive around, you heater should work better. This may have to be done multiple times to completely purge the system of air.

2004 Kia low heat at idle hiway speeds ok

1) Coolant tank may show full but radiator is low in coolant...Cold engine...remove cap...inspect coolant level in radiator...fill if necessary,,,
2) If #1 is OK, the coolant system has an air blockage...With cold engine remove cap...Start engine...Heat control on high... when thermostat opens coolant AND air will escape from radiator...there will be coolant loss...Wait until all air escapes then carefully replace cap...When engine cools remove cap and top off coolant if required.....saailer

2004 gmc yukon is overheating and air conditioning blows cold air. i cracked open coolent reservoir and it gurgled so i shut it. then the heat started working and the engine temp went down, but not...

bleed the air from cooling system. and make sure its full of coolant. replace thermostat if need be. good-day ! if above fails replace coolant reservoir cap, it may not be releasing pressure as need be. and its over heating. just remove cap and start car to see if it over heats. if it still does, repair as above. and be sure the cooling fans are working. but an improper seal of the radiator cap or pressure malfunction of the cap is an easy (and cheap) source to check first. If the pressure in the radiator is not high enough, the fluid will boil at a lower point and the resulting steam cannot flow through the cooling system.

Do you have a diagram of the radiator cap, overflow hose, and tank seal

Unfortunately there is no specific diagram for this but your radiator cap is right on the top of the radiator closest to the front bumper, the overflow hose will also be connected to the cap or very close to it. You should see it go from there to the radiator fluid reservoir. The tank seal is located inside your radiator cap, this is what makes it from coming out of the cap. The other seals are welded into the actual radiator. Hope this gave you a good idea of what you were looking for!

How do I replace the radiator in my 2004 kia

I don't currently have access to step by step instructions for your Kia Sorento, but I would imagine that it takes a standard tool ratcheting tool set to unscrew the bolts for the shroud, and lift any fans out of the way. Then, the radiator hold down hardware can be removed and the radiator should be disconnected fromt he cooling system (via the hoses) and then you can pull it out. It does not weigh much.

Installation is the reverse of the removal.

My 2004 kia is leaking coolant

I had this same problem and found out after alot of searching that the reservoir can only be purchased through a Kia Service department. I bought a new one for under $40 and it took less than 30 min to replace on my own. The parts manager said that it is a common problem and Kia redesigned the new reservoir so that the grids you see on the bottom of the old one are gone, apparently the grid is the source of weakness.

Checking antifreeze

If the cap is not ontop of the Radiator itself it means you have a remote reservoir. Usually its near your washer fluid filler but not always. On the side of that are a full and fill lines simply check them for a level and add fluid as needed there.
