Rear heater blows only cold air no matter what the settings are at. Front heat works well. I have tried using both the front and rear controls to set the temperature, but the rear vents will only blow warm air at best. The air starts out as cold as the outside air even when the engine is warm and the front is blowing hot air. It takes several minutes for the air to get slightly warm.

If this is equipped with a rear heater core it is probably plugged up and needs to be disassembled and cleaned out

SOURCE: Fully warmed up; blowing hot and cold; Suzuki XL-7

Its just a vent damper plate not operating, it's like a gate which controls the flow of air,,usually they are operated by vacuum, or cables.
Service center time, unless you are handy with your own repairs.

SOURCE: 2001 Suzuki XL-7. Heater blows hot one side, cold the other.

No ductwork [to the lower vents] under the dash. They are part of the heater core / blower housing is integrated (all one piece).

After reviewing shop manual, we suspect that one of the three damper flaps is not positioning correctly; or debris has blocked one side (which makes more sense given the symptoms).

We're waiting for the temperatures to get back in the plus numbers to check out the physical arrangement.

When front air is on rear heat always

If you have owners manual check that your climate control settings are as you expect them to be, if that makes sense. Some on Fixya do not realise they gave climate control , they think they have normal A/C and try to correct chimerical problems. Please check and repost

All my heater vents blow air when heat is on, but only the front gets warm air...all rear vents only blow cold air no matter how you have the heater set...not sure what the problem could be.

there is a diverter valve that lets hot water from the engine into a heater core, which is a device like a small radiator, which heats the air when it flows past. there is probably a second heater core for the rear. the valve for that one, or the switch or relay to control it is bad.

Kia Sedona- center and third row heating vents blowing cold air

There is a separate button on the lower dash labeled RR HTR for the rear heater. If you do not engage the switch it will blow cold air.

Why does the front heater only blow cold air

you must listen when changing the temperature from cold to hot to see if you can hear the heater duct opening & closing,if not could be a vacuum hose is disconnected or broken,or the vacuum motor that moves the duct door has broken you might hear a hissing sound,or a cable has broken,I don't think it's a fuse ,because it's working when you turn it on,those are good possible causes I have given you have fun & I hope you have small hands, limited space acess

Rear blower: only works on high when set on cold, won't work at all when set to heat

I would start with the rear blower motor resistor, the resistor is what controls the speed of the fan, the resistor is located in the rear heater box near the blower, you will need to remove the right rear side panel to access the heater box. start with that

2004 suburban rear a/c only blows hot air

ase mechanic:
there are separate actuators for the blend doors. one for heat and one for cool. they work opposite and in conjuction with each other, if that makes any sense. ones open, ones close, for each different climate. sounds like the the cold one isn't opening in the rear.

2001 tahoe front heater not working, rear heater blows warm air

Notorious for plugged heater cores. Also updated plastic restriction couplers mounted at heater core available from dealer. Try back flushing heater core. Run engine till its at operating temperature then carefully hold the inlet and outlet hose breifly with heater fan on high if hoses are nearly the same temp then flow is good , if not then core is plugged.

2001 tahoe front heater not working, rear heater blows warm air

I have the same problem with my 2001 Tahoe. The front blower is working, its blowing strong, but its cold air even with the temp setting as high as it can get. The rear blows hot air. The engine temp guage is at about 210ish which is close to being normal (220). I just replaced the thermostate a few months ago, I don't know if its bad again, or it I deluted the antifreeze too much and it frooze the heater core, or if the heater core just went bad. Any one know what the cause could be?
