My '92 F250 wtih 7.3L diesel starts then shuts down immediately. It takes about 3 cranks to get it to run, then it is fine to drive. I replaced the fuel lines (plastic) as the old ones were leaking, and that is when this problem started. It would always start up good before this. I have replaced the fuel filter and o-rings in the drain tap bowl as these were damp. Any ideas?

92 and 97 have completely different injection syatems. I agree with the air getting into system on the 92. the fuel pump has a check valve in it' the valve may be bad allowing fuel to drain from the fuel filter housing, Could even be a pin hole in a line between fuel tank and injection pump, follow lines back to tank, see if you see any moisture on either the feed or return line, these have a history of rusting, may be a pinhole onder the rust> Let me know if this helps

Not an expert on diesels, but I believe you are bleeding down when it sits.
Could be slight leak at one of the fittings. Air can get in without fuel necessarily getting out, especially with the turn like from the pump to tank.
I believe there is also a "lift pump" for the fuel on the side of the engine block.
Tighten all those fittings as well.

I have that same issue and mine is a 97. I think its either injection related or the high pressure oil pump my buddy's just went out and its doing the same thing our trucks are doing. the best bet is to get rid of your truck or pay 2600 bucks unless your a skilled mechanic or know someone who can do it for cheap because the parts only like 20- 100 bucks

2001 Ford F250 diesel 7.3 c.i..hard starting, after warm up,shuts down, will not start up .could water in fuel cause it? Sensors?has 1 injecter miss.

I assume it will still spin over but just not start.
Do you get smoke at tailpipe while cranking it over?
If no smoke, then it means the injectors aren't firing.
Typically, there are three reasons why injectors won't fire.
  1. Low voltage while cranking (Check battery for proper voltage). Check all connections, especially at Starter. Starters get funky when hot and may not spin fast enough (See #3).
  2. Injector control pressure below 500 psi (HPOP oil)
  3. RPM not fast enough while cranking (CPS)
Water in the fuel would cause issues when cold and hot. Have you checked the fuel bowl and found water?

Since you mention an injector miss already, then I would start there and confirm items 1 through 3 above.

Engine shut down immediately after start-up. Engine cranks but won't start.

this is a classic sign of a bad crank position sensor. Or a alarm disabler. Autozone.com has a tutorial on checking and replacing the CPS.

Cranking but won't start..

the white smoke usually means oil has entered the turbo but should still start unless this newer model has a shut down protection

Oil ran out while driving..plug had came out. put oil & plug in & truck will not start. 2002 ford f250

You ran the truck out of oil? If so then you have seized the engine up and it wont start again. If your lucky the engine could be rebuilt using the same block but the internals will all need to be replaced.

Ford f250 superduty turbo diesel 7.3L Will not crank

Charge the batteries. take a Reading to make sure that you are getting almost 14v to both batteries. If it is not charging then take the alternator back off and have them check it. you might have bought a bad one. There is a way to test the glow plus with out taking them out. ( Take a piece of wire long enough to reach all the glow plugs from the battery. unplug the glow plug wire.If you touch the end of the glow plug with the hot wire it should make a little spark. if no spark then the glow plug is bad. do this to each one, but one at a time)
