By chance did you check your oil level. That would be ideal before your engine blows out. If that is fine, more in likely it maybe normal. Some GM vehicles do that also due to the cold weather. After sitting for a long period of time the oil will settle in the oil pan til you crank up. The knocking noise may last for 5-10 sec then it stops because the oil is lubricating the pistons again. But if it is constant and oil level is good, get a mechanic to check it out. Hope this helps.
you are most probably looking at a rebuild. There was a class action suit against Chrysler because of that motor. they made the oil passages in that motor too narrow, and it doesn't take a lot of gunk to block them up and a good section of the motor loses oil pressure. I remember that their policy was to blame the customer if he missed a single service. a lot of those engines failed under warranty.
If it starts with a shot of WD-40 then fuel delivery is obviously a problem when cold. If intake air temperature sensor ( for one) is telling it that its still real warm out, then it won't give it enough fuel to start on a cold day, which requires more fuel.
The tapping, I think, from the limited information, is the Valves not
getting the Oil due to low oil pressure. Once the engine warms up, and
the Oil pump starts to flow the oil, the tapping stops. Many vehicles,
do this. I would not be overly concerned about
the tapping, but I would be concerned about the coolant leak. An easy
way to see if you have an external leak is to go to a local parts
store, and purchase a leak test kit, which usually is a dye, which can
be seen with a blacklight. Take vehicle to repair facility and have a Carbon Block Test done
could be your alternator. at start up. alternator usually has a big load because you just use your starter. it would recharge the battery and after a while the battery would be fully charge, the squealing noise will be gone.
check also all the belts if they are individual belts. use some belt dressings to eliminate the noise. sometimes the belt are just worn out and it would also make these noises.
