I also have the same problem with a 2007 ford focus. I have been informed that it is a common problem and that the barrel needs to be changed. I believe it is necessary to open the bonnet by trying to remove the panel/ covers from under the front bumper. I managed to get the panel off by removing about 8 screws but I was still unable to open the bonnet.
If you have any luck, would you please respond.

The bonnet lock on focus 1600, behind the Ford badge on front grille, turns both ways but the bonnet won't lift.

This sounds like the locking mechanism is disconnected from the lock cylinder if you have a trunk release button try that it should work if not you must take out the back seat and get in the trunk to pull on the safety release plastic handle and cable you always saw when the trunk was open its the car shaped or t shaped handle with the cable this will open the trunk if you have fold down seats this is easy if not you need someone small enough with a flashlight to get it done

Where to find the lever to open bonnet of ford ikon?

There isn't always a lever - Ford sometimes fit a key operated bonnet lock. Flip up the Ford badge on the front grille and insert the ignition key into the hole found behind it - turn the key clockwise (I think) to release it and then anti-clockwise to disengage the safety catch.

Ford connect bonnet lock wont open

Once the grille is removed it is a tight squeeze but you can get in a 10mm ratchet spanner and remove the bolts from the back of the catch mechanism, be careful once they are out as when you lift the bonnet the electric cable for the bonnet alarm is still attatched gently lift the bonnet a little and the disconnect the multi plug from the mechanism

Bonet is stuck, put the key in turn it left and its not opening,

Look into the grill at the top you will find the bottom of 6 plastic screws, 4 you get two via the grill slots use a chisel and cut them off, Then one either end of the grill. Place the chisel between two plastic layers, gently lift , check and cut, one each end.
With a wiggle that's the top loose, There are two clips holding the bottom in place Put your fingers through the bottom slot in the grill, push down clip and greatly pull the grill, do both sides, It won't come right out but your aim to loosen it., The lock is held in place in a sleeve with a plastic clips each side, you have push the barrel with a suitable item, this is to push it out of the sleeve and out of its housing, It may need a tap!!
Gently wiggle and pull the grill off
Lock
The lock is a 'lock barrel along a shaft to a white plastic coupling' this fits in to the 'bonnet lock'
The security is at the coupling to bonnet lock in the form of a cross shaped plastic key
The key is fitted and held in place in the coupling, and when installed it's fitted in to the lock, and once it's in the lock part it will not come out, so therefore any jolt, pull, movement dislodges the plastic key from the coupling side and due to its design it will not slot back in so the lock barrel just rotates
To open you have to apply pressure on the shaft towards the left and into the coupling and turn the key in the lock barrel at the same time in a aim to get the coupling to catch the plastic key (take a few minutes) but it opens in the end if this is the fault, (alternatively remove the two bolts that hold the bonnet catch to the bonnet)
Once bonnet open remove the bonnet lock mechanism, then with draw the lock barrel, shaft, coupling, By looking in side you will understand regarding the cross key
Anyway you need to remove one of the catches from the side of the plastic key This way it will fit back in to coupling.

Bonnet will not open with key

Not sure if the solution can be applied to 2006 focus, I have an European Mk2 Focus which also having the same problem. Here is what you can try.

To Open:
1. Jack up the car on the lifter.
2. Open bottom engine cover.
3. Loosen two (10mm) screws which secure the bonnet lock assembly. The screws located between air manifold and radiator.
4. Once the screws released, disconnect the alarm cable/socket connected to the lock assembly.
5. Try pull open the bonnet, it may require little force to pull the bonnet open due to a little white plastic link (~1" long, plus (+)shaped) is still connected between the lock assy. and cable assy. Failure to release bonnet lock is only caused by this plastic link!
6. Once the bonnet opened, the cable assy can be detached by pulling it from engine side out. Inspect the plastic link if it worn out.

To Install:
1. Attach lock and cable assy. Ensure the plastic link is properly inserted in its place between lock and cable assy. Test the mechanism with the car key.
2. Insert the whole assembly from engine side out.
3. Secure with two 10mm screws, reconnect alarm cable.
4. Reinstall bottom engine cover.

Hope this help. Sorry for my English.

Reassemble
This is a brief description But the cost to me was 45 minutes, £2 for a pack of plastic rivets / screws, and I cached my bumper with the chisel £5 for a touch up stick Total £7. Well worth the time and effort
