CAN NOT LOCATE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION CENSOR ON MY 1996 INTREPID

It is located under hood, center, rear engine area back side of the engine block, it picks up its signal off the crankshaft throw. See picture below

go to a muffler shop and ask them to put your car up on the lift and point it out to you. they are all in the same place relative to the crankshaft.

According to my part book the first year GM use crank position sensor on Camero LT1 is 1998,

pass side under the back of the head and into the block above the flywheel.

If you have access to a scan tool you can check and see if the scan tool shows any RPM's while cranking this indicates whether the pcm is receiving a signal from the crankshaft sensor.The crank sensor is generally located on the rightside of the car lower engine by the cranskshaft pully/dampener.Before going this route would check the ignition module which is right by the coils underneath the coil cover many auto parts stores can test these for you.

The camshaft position sensor is located on the timing cover on the front of the engine. The crankshaft position sensor is located just above the differential on the transaxle bell housing where it has to be to read from the flywheel the position of the crankshaft. It is easy to see from the front of the engine even though it is on the back half. Just look for the shifter cable and where its bracket ends (on the firewall side of the bracket) glance about 12" to the left and you should have no problem finding it. An 8 mm bolt is holding it in and with that bolt taken out it just pulls out of its hole.
