There is a micro switch in your trunk latch that turns that light on and off. If your trunk is securely latched and the light is on, either the switch needs cleaned or the latch needs replaced. You can try spraying it with a contact cleaner and seeing if it will start working.

The anti theft system in the 2000 Saturn LS1, thinks you're trying to steal the car ... Once the security light is not flashing you canstart the car.
Use your key to unlock the door / trunk. If your car starts up; it might just be a connector and / or your battery in your remote. Try the simple / cheaper fix check by checking the connectors leading to the trunk release solenoid.
I just solved a similar problem on my 2003 Saturn. The tail light assembly had gotten wet on a stormy night with the trunk open. There was no problem until the weather turned cold. After looking at the fuses, relays, brake switch etc. I got my trusty voltmeter out. Testing the voltage on the light blue wires in my tail light connector I found the required +12Volts for the brake lights when the brake pedal was pressed. Checking the lamp sockets I found the 12 volts was still present when the brake pedal was pressed.
The water that leaked into the bulb connectors (right and left) and spread the contacts when the water inside them froze! Blowing out the water and pushing the contacts back together solved my problem! Lesson...Keep the trunk closed when it's raining hard and dry out the bulb connectors if they get wet.
Weird Problem.Maybe a prob with the fuel filler neck but that would be rare! Thats about really the only source for fuel to get there unless it spilled out of a gas can?? Those L series cars are bad for fuel level sender problems with the guage reading off.
I am not an expert on saturn so don't rate me on this unless it actually does some good. On an impact the car may trip your fuel pump. This is to keep fuel from being pumped from the gas tank to your engine to minimize a fire. There is a reset switch normally located in the rear wheel wells in the trunk of the car. You may have to move a trunk liner aside to see it. See if there is anything in your owner's manual about the Fuel Pumo Shut-off - or Resetting the Fuel pump or related data in the book. Hope this helps. If not, please stop back as answer keep coming in Thanks Len
