These always stop working. Mine did too. After I replaced batteries remote start stop working. Then all functions stopped. Went to the dealer and they wanted $300 to fix. Simple solution... Use a hole puncher, aluminum foil and glue. 1st open your remote, Punch enough holes for every function on the remote. Then place the aluminum on the metal function buttons of the circuit board use glue to keep them in place. Then put the rubber peace to cover , close your remote and use.
Or you can buy the rubber insert which is what fails. There's a conductive material sprayed on the inside of these so that when you press the button, it contacts both halves of the contact underneith to complete the circuit. This spray on conductive material rubs off over time and won't complete the circuit. It's an easy fix.
Now that's a good tip to know . . . mine stopped working just today out of the blue; replaced battery & still nothing so I may try this - thanks!

Sounds like fob circuitry is getting a bad connection... or it's dying... pull fob apart and gently clean the button electrical contacts
