Clutch Do all 1998 manual transmission S10's have the same kind of clutch? If so is it cable or hydraulic?

if manual transmission and hydraulic clutch --replace the clutch master cylinder
or cable clutch ---replace the cable
or--- replace the clutch ( 1st two options before the clutch as they are cheaper)
if automatic ---change the oil and have the bands and clutch pack adjusted ( use an accredited auto transmission speciliast shop who has experience on your vehicle)

It's a manual transmission, then? If it is, your clutch is not working. You need to check at the transmission's bell housing to see if the clutch pedal being depressed causes the clutch fork to move-either forward or backward, it should move about an inch with the pedal pushed to the floor.. The clutch pedal will either be cable operated, or it will be a hydraulic clutch with a clutch master cylinder on the firewall, and a steel tube going down to the bell housing, where a small "slave cylinder" operates the clutch fork.

If you see the clutch fork move a fair amount, at least an inch, then you probably need a new clutch disc and pressure plate. A clutch job means removing the transmission to replace the clutch.

If the clutch fork does not move, either the cable has too much slack-for cable operated clutches, or the hydraulic unit has a problem-for hydraulic operated clutches. One of your hydraulic cylinders may be bad, either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder.

The clutch system in the Kia rios of those years are clutch cables, not hydraulic. There is no need for clutch fluid. Have a mechanic look at your clutch cable tension.
If it turns out to be a tranny prob thank Korea for building cheap cars.

if everything is hook up properly then the fork of pressure plate spring are broken or pressure plate defect

your hydraulic clutch cylinder needs addressed, low fluid, or bad cylinder. these problem seem to surface during winter. hope this works for you

Clutch and tranny fluid does not go in the same place whatever you do don't mix them as for where to fill the clutch fluid, believe it or not some of the clutch share a resovoir with the brakes but others have a smaller resovoir right next to the break master cylinder, but that's only if you have a hydraulic clutch some where actually cable so it wouldn't take hydraulic fluid at all.. Clutch cable? Actually, I think you'd have a hydraulic clutch. If it's cable, it would come out of the firewall, where your clutch pedal operates, and down to the transmission. If it's hydraulic, there'd be a clutch reservoir just beside your brake reservoir on the firewall, with a hose leading down to a "clutch slave cylinder" mounted on your transmission. If you have no clutch, this slave cylinder can be easily bled of air and will gravity feed new fluid to the cylinder.

it is very possible that the operation for the clutch has failed
as to hydraulic or cable , all you have to do is look under the bonnet and see if there is a clutch master cylinder or a cable from the clutch pedal
if hydraulic replace the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder and if cable replace the cable
better still take it to an accredited clutch and brake service center and have it properly diagnosed service

It is very difficult for you to disengage the clutch by hand or with any leverage you can get outside the transmission. There is over 200 lbs of force clamping on the clutch disc.

If you replaced the clutch and took the slave cylinder out of the transmission without putting a brick under the clutch pedal or disconnecting the pivot arm from the pedal then you ruined the hydraulics. Buy a new PRE-BLED system from a local auto store. Generally this is the problem.

Either that or the clutch fork is bent or you installed the throwout bearing backwards (or simply fell off the fork which is not all that uncommon).

There are 2 possibilities.

1. Since the clutch is hydraulic, some particle is jamming the rod-piston movement, hene the clutch lever is jammed(if using manual transmission)
2. The springs which press the clutch plate to the engine(cam) are either brken off, meaning the clutch remains engaged all the time and since the hydraulics are not able to push them apart(release the clutch)-applicable for auto or manual trensmission.............. ..sodeep
