Purchase a Purolator oil filter PL14459 or Li4459. Advance Auto Parts sells this quality filter. Remove the old filter. Wipe the mounting surface clean and inspect it to see if there are cracks or anything else that could cause the filter to leak. Apply a thin coat of oil to the new filter gasket. Tighten the filter 3/4 turn after it contacts the mounting surface. No more than that. Too tight and it will leak. No oil on the gasket and it will leak. If you do this correctly there is no way the filter will leak. The leak is probably above the filter and is running down and dripping off the filter giving the impression the filter is leaking. I would suspect a leaking valve cover gasket.
Check your oil sending unit sit next to oil filter.

Make sure you oil the rubber seal on the oil filter and tighten the oil filter 3/4 of a turn more after the seal is flush with the bracket.

Take the car to a car wash and power wash the engine. Do this ONLY with a cold engine. And be prepared to have problems with it starting as water get's into the electrical components. Take some WD-40 with you to spray inside distributor caps, on spark wiring, etc. to get the engine running again.
Then check the engine weekly to see where the oil is coming from.

Are you sure you have the exact oil filter for your particular engine. Make sure the rubber gasket is set right on the oil filter groove. It should seal . also check around the filter . it could be something else leaking.

Take off your oil filter and replace it immediately. What happened was your oil seal fell off your oil filter when you took it off.
Good luck
