On my 1997 GMC the manual says, slow to 1 to 3 mph keep wheels straight. Put transmission into neutral and then move floor lever/shifter forward from 2H into 4LO. Do the 2H to N to 4L in one single motion so that it slips in easier,if you linger in neutral it may not mesh gears correctly. You will hear a slight sound when it slips in. Personally I just reversed the procedure to get it back to 2H.
Typically and this is how it works on my 94 chevy suburban.
Put the truck into neutral.
apply the emergency brake
press the brake pedal and move the 4X4 shifter into 4wd lo
Than put the vehicle back in park release the emergency brake
and you should good to go from there.
please let me know if you need any further assistance with your vehicle and i would be glad to help you.
