My 01 Chevy venture just got a new fuel pump put in gas gauge still isn't working proper so had another fuel pump put in same problem. My relay fuse is good fuel pump fuse is good. I have to have my wires checked, make sure my sensor on top of pump connector wires are good. What else can I be looking for?
Just because it pumps gas doesn't mean it is at the exact pressure it should be? Most fuel pumps have a psi of 40 to 45 psi, your fuel pump could be pumping at 25 psi or less which is not enough to start your car even though you can see some fuel pumping out. A simple tool to check fuel pressure can be bought at any auto parts store, check the specs on the fuel pump for your 02 Chevy first to see at what pressure it works, then use the fuel pressure gauge to check it. Anything less than what the specs on your fuel pump are suppose to be and you have a bad fuel pump?
Let's say your fuel pump works at 43psi, you hook up the fuel pressure gauge and you find that it reads 25 to 30 psi, that means it's not enough fuel pressure to start your engine.
If gauge is pegged full then while driving goes empty then full then 1/2 it is the circuit board inside the fuel tank that has gone bad. to get the tank to register correctly then you must remove tank remove fuel pump module the float arm can be adjusted to read correct level
The gauge works on a float system , If the wiring system concerning the gauge is not correctly fixed or presently detached, it will not show the correct reading or any reading at all. Also , if the float , which is inside the fuel tank ,is fault or jammed, that also would result in wrong indication . There is a chance that u have a fuse for this indicator as well. Have the fuse checked up .
So check the wiring and the float , after you check for the blown fuse anywher. Fuse neednt be blown always , it can also be loose . so fix it properly .
I'VE HAD MY GOOD SHARE OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH GM PRODUCTS. 100% OF THE TIME THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT ON THE SIDE OF THE FUEL PUMP IS THE PROBLEM. IT IS VERY COMMON ON THESE CARS. ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH COMES WITH A NEW SENDING UNIT, UNLESS YOU CAN FIND THESENDING UNIT SEPARATE. I WOULDN'T RECOMEND THE LATTER THOUGH, AS IT IS MOST LIKELY THAT THE PUMP WILL BE THE NEXT TO GO.
sending unit on fuel pump is bad, the sending unit shorts out gauge will go to empty or full, never read right, turn on switch ,it goes to full or empty, ,check the pump, hope this helps, thanks robert b.
