It may be the contacts on the ignition switch, at the back of the ignition switch using a jumper wire touch the white wire to the white with black together, if the starter cranks it is probibly the contacts on the switch, or if your car is manual transmission you might have to press the clutch switch, this could also be the problem

99 acura tl wont start. Replaced Nuetral safety switch, but still won't start. Lights work on dash, and head lights are bright. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you done the testing at the starter wiring your not receiving hot to the solenoid circuit on the starter when the key is turned over? Place a test light on the connector for solenoid hot and have some one turn the key if it lights check for constant voltage on the large wire connection from the battery to the starter. If that's all working your starter is bad.

94 honda accord starter does not click there is no turning over cranking.. Nothing. The battery is brand new and all lights and everything else work. Is this a bad starter or bad starter solenoid ???

It could be the solenoid or the start circuit. To check, pull off the wire at the starter solenoid and use a test light or voltmeter to check for power on that wire when the key is held in crank position. It should have power- if it does, likely the solenoid is bad. If no power on the solenoid start wire, then problem is in the start circuit between the ignition switch and the solenoid-check the neutral safety switch, check for power out of ignition switch on the start wire, with key held in crank position, check starter relay for proper operation. All these items are in the starting circuit.

could have faulty starter or starter solenoid.hook test light make you a test light with longer wires and 12 volt bulb with socket go junk yard find good bulb with socket.hook test light to starter and see if test light lights up if so your starter or starter solenoid has a open winding. if test light dont light up could have blowed fuse to transmission neutral switch or neutral switch could be bad.try to start vechicle in neutral if vechicle starts your transmission neutral switch out of adjustment or neutral switch faulty check make sure wires going to neutral switch is damaged.

1999 Ford Escort ZX2 won't start

It's called the clutch start switch. Yes, it could be bad or needs adjustment.

Push the clutch in and the switch closes contact, so power flows from the ignition switch start position to the clutch switch and on to the starter motor-well, actually to the starter solenoid on the starter motor. If you have a voltmeter or test light, you can test the clutch switch . A red and white wire to it and a red wire from the switch to the starter solenoid. When this wire gets to the solenoid, it is a black wire with red stripe. It should have voltage when key is held in start position and the clutch pedal is depressed.

Wiring diagram mazda premacy car wont startput key in turn over engine wont kickin

Autozone.com has free digrams in the repair section.
What won't "kickin"? The starter does not turn? If that is the case,
Go to the starter, there will be a large battery cable and a smaller wire on a seperate terminal. Put a test light to the small terminal/wire and have a helper turn the key as if to start the car. If the test light comes on then the starter/solenoid is bad. No light, may be ignition, nuetral safety switch, fuses, etc..

Check for power at starter solenoid on switch side (purple wire) should have 12-12.6 volts if you have power to the solenoid and it won't do anything then the starter is bad.

My 1998 Accord will not start. When i turn the key it acts like the battery does not have enough power to turn the engine. I tried jumping but that did not help. I did notice that when the headlights...

It's possible that the starter or starter solenoid has failed. If you have a meter or test light, check for power at the battery cable connection to the solenoid. Try the starter, if the light goes out or the meter reads zero volts, suspect a poor cable connection at the battery end. If power remains, move the test to the starter terminal. If power appears when the key is turned, but no engine turning, replace the starter. Hope this helps!

'97 subaru legacy L,AWD wagon, 2.2L, auto trans.

Do you hear a 'click' when the key is turned to start? Have someone try the key while you listen under the hood. It should be the starter solenoid clicking. You need either a test light or voltmeter to test further. One large terminal on the solenoid has the large wire from the battery positive, and should always show voltage/light at all times. Test the other side of the solenoid (large terminal) that is connected to the terminal on the starter motor. It should show light/voltage when the key is turned. If it doesn't, the solenoid must be replaced. If it does show light/voltage, then the starter motor is defective (probably brushes). If you get no click when turning the key, test the small terminal on the solenoid, you should see a voltage/light change when the key is turned. If you see a change, but no click, the solenoid coil is open or the case of the solenoid is not grounding where it is mounted. Try loosening the mounting and re-tighten. If no help, replace the solenoid. If you see no change at the small terminal, remove the wire from it and using a spare piece of wire, touch the small terminal to, first, the large terminal that the battery is connected to, then to the the mounting bolt for the solenoid. If the solenoid is good, the starter should operate with one of these two tests. In that case, the starter position of key switch is open--replace the ignition switch.
