Hi, my 1995 Galant wont shift to overdrive. I know,, you have read this a thousand times brfore. I took the car to 2 shops. They both said the tranny was shot, one wanted 1700.00 to fix it, the other wanted 2000.00. I bought a used (was told it was in good working condition) and put in the car and it does the same thing. wont shift into overdrive. Can anyony help me?? Thanks in advance, Brian
Boy O Boy, Don't throw that old trans away, It is most likely OK. Did you change the filter and fluid. A bad speed sensor or a bad torque converter lock-up solenoid will result in a loss of overdrive function. Perform an OBDII scan of the stored faults And look for Speed sensor and lock-up solenoid faults. Watch out for those shops, they will skin you.

same issue. tranny fluid is cooled via intercooler that runs along bottom of radiator. this developed a crack and because tranny fluid is under more pressure, started dumping tranny fluid into radiator. A couple guys recommended replacing rad, then servicing tranny just in case any coolant leaked backwards.

check all your conections --make sure nothing is left dis-connected.you say that it's getting fuel--is it getting thru the injectors, can you hear the injectors buzzing?may have stck injectors or even low fuel pressure. check fuel pressure.

Get your ECU (comp box) checked, it may be your speed sensor needs replacing, it's what tells your tranny too to shift....

you have a cracked valve body. bleeding fluid pressure. the passage way where the fluid goes is the only differene when in o-d.
