What is the condition of the starter ? Is this an engine hard to turn over problem when hot ? If so, the starter might be grounding out, this happens only when the casing is hot.

Could be the neutral safely switch is still not adjusted properly. With your foot on the brake and the transmission in neutral, move the shifter a little bit in either direction while holding the key in the start position. If the starter engages, the switch needs to be adjusted.

Check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Remove vacuum line after running, any trace of fuel in vacuum hose indicates defective fuel regulator diaphram. This will produce symtoms you describe. The fuel pressure in the rail leaks through the diaphram and causes flooding. Letting the truck sit clears the fuel from engine. As an alternative, try flooring the throttle while cranking hot, this will also will clear a flooded condition.

Hard to start sometimes ,idles rough, sometimes wont start but runs fine once going

You may have a problem with the coolant sensor. IT's giving a signal that the engine is hot when it is cold. This is a common problem with Dodge products.Sensor near thermostat housing. Put pan under car & drain coolant down low enough to remove sensor replace but do not over tighten ie 5ft. lbs or till it doesn't leak.

1997 dodge 1500 starts fine when cold, won't restart when warm.

No, the coil the is not the problem. I would take the ignition module and have it tested. Even though it may not test bad b/c it is still cold, it is more than likely the problem. Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when the trouble occurs?
