It could be a clogged fuel filter or you could have a old gas coated inside the carbrator. Seafoam will fix that up in a hurry. Don't be supprised if it blows smoke its cleaning all the junk bout of your carbrator. I would start with the simpelist things first.
Fuel filter
Check your carbrator
Throttle adjustment
Fuel pump relay
Defiantly get a Haynes manual it will trouble shoot you through your problem.
have the fuel pressure checked if it is ok then you most likely have a bad cam or crank sensor.. is the check engine light on? that will help to pinpoint the issue. if no check engine light then most likely its a fuel pump.
check the fuel pump, when you turn the key to the on position, the pump should start for a couple of seconds, it sounds to me like its not keeping the fuel line pressured any longer, which is why your having starting problems, when you turn the key to on, Listen for the pump to start, you will hear it hum ever so slightly,, after a couple of seconds it should stop, if it doesn't,, its losing the pressure needed, you can have them checked , its not very expensive to get them checked, having to pump the pedal,, doesn't help with this problem,, and the over heating is more than likely associated with it too,, if its not firing correctly, it will tend to over heat at times
I believe you turn the ignition to the on position (engine not running)and fully depress the gas pedal to the floor 5 times within 10 seconds. Sometimes you have to start the procedure over if it doesn't work the first time. Make sure you smoothly press the pedal all the way down and come all the way up each time. You should then hear a audible ding letting you know it reset.
Could be a clogged fuel filter, and or dirty fuel injectors. Try running some strong injector cleaner through it. It may take 2 or 3 times before it cleans the injectors out fully.
hi there sounds like you need a tune up or you need your injectors cleaned so i will help you clean them with out getting your hands dirty but you need to follow me every step of the way. first i will give you my tips
get a high quality fuel injector cleaner that you put into your fuel tank
make Shaw you have just under a full tank of fuel
while i never say that one should drive a car like it is a toy you are going to have to do some harsh exhilarating during this
1000rpm is 1 revs on your dash bored so if i say do 2500rpm it means do 2.5 on your dash (that's only if you dot know what rpm means)
never turn the car off while we do this
please do not speed you put your life and others at risk
please do not drink and drive
OK now for the step by step instructions
have what you need ready to go including the injector cleaner
start your car and let it warm up keep the revs just over 1000 rpm
as the car is running add the fuel injector cleaner
when you have done this i want you to increase the revs to about 2000rpm
keep it like this for about 30 seconds
after the revs are back down to 1000 rpm i want you to get ready to take it for a drive
OK so take it for a light drive around your street keep it very close to home as if your car stops you don't want to have to walk a long way
once you have done this for a while and you feal confident i want you to be a bit quicker in exelarating giving a bit more power remember dont speed
now once you have done this i want you to take her home and let it idle for a bit cause you need to get ready to go for a long drive
now that you have got to the bathroom and are ready to go i want you to find a nice open road where you can do 60mph
now that you are here i want you to act like ther is a road train in front of you doing 50mph
now i want you to overtake this road train applying full power by pressing fully dont on the gas
once over tiaken slow back down
i want you to do steps 11 to 13 twice at least
now go back home and let me know how it went
now something to remember for alwase
as stated i dont think you should race or rev the motor all the time to high once a month give it a good run this will loosen and clean all the rubbish from the motor and everythink will run freeley like it should
dont drink and drive
dont speed
saty safe on the roads you life is to valued
and let me know all progress as i want to know if it helped as i pout in a lot of time and effort to helping people on this site
