How do I remove the whole steering column and shaft on 1989 Chevy silverado c1500 without removing the steering wheel?

Not exactly sure I understand what you are asking,, but to remove steering column there are two bolts/ nuts behind dash that hold column up they bolt into the support for the pedal assembly. Then there are I believe three bolts that bolt the column to the fire wall. The column is then bolted to the rag joint that joins the steering column to the steering box. You will also need to remove/ disconnect the wiring harness from under dash as well as any shifter linkage under hood. That linkage is simply a cotter pin or the likeness and push the rod out of the bushing.

start job under hood and work you way inside. Remove wire harness connector before the two bolts or nuts that hold column to dash. Should take about a half hour.

4wheel drive won't work

First check the fuse located in fuse box under hood. The most common problem is in the push-button switch located in the dash. I am a 67 year old female and fixed my boyfriend's 4WD in under 1/2 hour last week-end. You can order a new switch on eBay for under $40.00. Adjust steering wheel to lowest position and pull shift lever all the way down. Remove dash bezel from around gauges and switch (it just pops loose). This takes a little time getting it off from around steering column, etc. Just be gentle and patient. Snap out old switch, unsnap wiring, replace with new switch, snap in, replace dash bezel and you're done! There is a video on uTube showing steps. His 4X4 works perfect now and I get to tease him Double benefit. This was on a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck! -Marilyn

Diagram for removing of steering column for 1988 gmc 2500 pickup 3/4 ton

Remove two bolts under the dash the hold column to lower dash support, reach under and disconnect the wiring near bottom and then pull back the sound deadening and remove the bolts from the inner bulkhead, go under the hood and remove the rag joint coupler bolts, then remove the column from the truck with care to make sure you didn't miss any thing before you man handle it out like the shift indicator cable is so equipped..

Read up on this link. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/ But replacing steering column, you have probably swapped out the ignition that is part of the cars anti theft system. The passlock has immobilized the starter. Read that link all the way thru. Way too much to type. Tons of info and DO IT YOURSELF solutions to fix the security too.tayjoejoe_4.jpg

1990 chevy gladiator van steering column has came loose. It is floppy, how and what is the best way to correct this.

I will assume you really have a G10-20-30 van.(half/ 3/4 or 1 ton full size van)
The fifth digit of your vin should be a G.
Not the 2wheel drive pickup indicated.
That being said, your Gadiator is an aftermarket conversion van with a loose column.
This would have to be a loose tilt bowl on the steering column.
After removing the steering wheel and lock plate, you will find four inverted torx bolts that hold the tilt bowl to the column. Two will be backed way out and loose.Remove these bolts and appy loc tite to the bolt threads, then reassemble.

It is possible both low beams are out and you didn't notice until the second one failed. Have you tried to reset the lights with the dashboard switch?

I have a 1999 chevy silverado and I need to change heater core

Not a whole lot different. Just need to keep removing plastic down at the heater until you get to the heater core. Then disconnect it on the firewall side.

Broken Chevy 88 Silverado shift indicator. Need diagram to see individual parts and how to fix it. Red indicator tab does not move when when changing gears. is there a spring in it? Cable?

The neddle is attached to the column via a thin metal wire and spring which then clips to the edge. Remove the trim above the column and look for the clip attached to the wire and a warn spot on the column and reattach it. :)
