Automatic???? if so drop the pan and inspect the bottom of pan for shavings or deposits. You may get my with changing filet and fluid. If you do this, Add I Quart of LUCAS transmission fluid in place of you regular trans. fluid. Clean the bottom of valve body/transmission with carb clean or Brake cleaner. This will get varnish and gum out.

Why is there no reverse?

First is the transmission fluid in the full range on the dipstick. If not look at the dipstick for what type of fluid to add, or call your local parts dealer and ask what type fluid it takes, then fill to the full mark and check for reverse. If no reverse then you may have internal problems that a transmission shop will have to determine the course of repair.

I have reverse but no drive has a whinnig sound when cold 2001 ford escape v6 4wd

have you checked your transmission fluid on the dipstick under the hood? if so,then it should be full. look at the dipstick carefully to see the full level make sure if have to add fluid to the transmission that it is fomoco transmission fluid.if you have any doubt about the product, get a sales tech to show you which fluid you need for a ford transmission.there is a difference in the fluid.the whining sound you hear is from the transmission, you may have a leak.check where the vehicles parked for fluid on the ground,it will be red in color.if you do not see red fluid on the ground and the transmission is full of fluid, please repost your question with all the above information, such as full of fluid and reverse only. you may have a leak, which if fluids on the ground will tell you that much.but if it's full of fluid, then that's a different issue altogether.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com.

Transmission will not shift into reverse.

hello i can assist you the first thing your going to have to do is check your trans mission fluid level that is located under your engines hood compartment.Usually the transmission fluid pull stuck is yellow handle closer to the windshield in front of your firewall. You will need to have your truck running in park to correctly check the transmission fluid level the markings on the stick will assist you it will show full level cold full level engine hot best time to check is when engine is at operation temperature. If you find that your fluid was low and you needed to top it up with transmission fluid be sure to refer to year make and model when you purchase your fluid most time type "F" but these can very so read the label or ask at your auto parts counter at time of purchase. If you check your fluid and is full you will need to take your truck in for further assessment this is a internal problem and will need to be hoisted and further examined by a transmission specialist.

There is a hose hanging and it seems to be leaking transmission fluid. Now it will not go in reverse. Is my transmission savable?

Look under the car and see where the hose came from and re-attach it. There are three lines there. Two are cooler lines (attach to the side of the case and run to the radiator), one is a vent line (and should not leak fluid) Check the transmission level and add whatever is necessary to bring the level back to full. While adding fluid, keep checking underneath to make sure what you are adding is not going on the ground. If the transmission is full when you first check it then you need a transmission shop to run a diagnostics test to determine the cause of the malfunction. If the trans fluid is very low and filling it gets reverse back then change the fluid and add a quart of lucas trans conditioner and it may help. But....if it was driven low for a considerable amount of time it will need a rebuild.

2001 ford taurus TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

most likely due to a stripped out torque converter or a broken pump shaft. trans. has to come out to repair either or. you should make sure the fluid is full first. with the car running and warm, check fluid- if it seems over full, the pump shaft is broken, if it's just full- probably the torque conv., if its low add trans. fluid (mercon 5) 1 qt. at a time until in crosshatched area on the dipstick. hope this helps and good luck

Reverse gear has grinding noise...?

Have them flush the fluid out under warranty and put in new fluid, and have them bleed the clutch lines in case air is getting in there. Audi and VW claim lifetime transmission fluid but it's BS - I've changed relatively low mile fluid from these cars and it was horrendous. It's possible that the fluid itself is causing trouble, but it's more likely that it is a synchro problem. If it was a clutch issue, you should have problems with more than just reverse gear - a clutch simply engages and disengages the engine and transmission, regardless of which gear it is. The problem (if not fixed by fluid) is in the transmission, and being under warranty, don't accept another "suggestion" like they're giving you. Changing your clutch isn't gonna do it.
