SOURCE: 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8L error P0401 then P0404

if the check engine light is blinking, you have a misfire(spark plugs, plug wires or coil pack.inspect the plug wires for damage. The rear bank plug wires (at the fire wall) get alot of heat and the boots will crack, causing a misfire. You might want to have your local shop check it for you,to see if there is an open circuit or shorting in one or more of the plug wires.if it has been awhile since a tune-up,you might want to do that first, and inspect the plug wire boots also and replace them if needed.

Testimonial: "Thanks, That is very helpful advice and I cannot rule it out but I just had my plugs, wires & coil pack replaced 6 months ago. Any other advice? Thx"

Codes P0401 and P0441 on a 1996 98 Olds

P0401--- the egr valve has insufficient air flow. Needs to be taken off and cleaned, if not replaced. The port holes might be clogged up, or the valve itself might be bad.
P0441---- The evaporative emission control purge valve has low air flow, probably do to the egr valve.
If you take off the egr valve, you will need to replace the gasket, or it won't seal right when it's put back on.

Where is the EGR valve located on a 2001 Ford Windatar ? I want to replace it as I have an error code P0401

it is located beside the thottle body, but this code is insufficient flow, which the port in your thottle body is stopped up with carbon, you will have to remove the thottle body , take some carb cleaner and a pick and clean the port out.
