sound like your fuel pump is failing check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail should be 35-45psi and you should get about a liter of fuel in less than one minute
BACK IN 1986 IF YOU HAD A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP LOCATED ON SIDE OF ENGINE. YOU HAD CARBURATOR ENGINE.AND ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP IF YOU HAD FUEL INJECTION.ENGINE.THE FUEL PUMP IS IN GAS TANK.OR MOUNTED ON THE OUTSIDE OF GAS TANK.
I'd unbolt or unplug a line going into the fuel filter or into the engine and take it from there. You'd have to power the fuel pump though to make it squirt. Some cars have a test plug right in the engine compartment that if grounded or has power applied to it, it will energize the fuel pump.
